Has anyone used a fail safe unit on the Savage? I was planning on putting the OFNA fail safe unit, but it seems there is no room in the electronics box to put it in and still get the wirings and the unit out. Thoughts anyone???

All rc cars need a failsafe! get a Venom one it you can!

You talking about the Ofna micro FS? I've heard mixed things about that unit. It will fit in the Savage radio box, with the reverse servo, I've done it. Only problem was that my FS made the throttle servo jitter and not function properly. I ran it with the stock radio, and two models of JR radios, and it did the same thing every time. A number of people local have said the same thing. So take it as you will. Currently I am not using a FS on my Savage, only my 1/8th buggy.

yes ! get one i did after seeing my buddys 1/8 Ofna buggy go under and SUV !!!! we both went straight to the lhs for parts (lol) and failsafe's, then the other day i thought i had a reciever issue and thought maybe my failsafe was defective so i took it off and all seemed fine till my SAVAGE took off full throttle(my batterys were new but sat in the truck for awhile), lucky i was able to jump in the way of it and save her!!! lol bruised leg up pretty bad

A must have :)

ALWAYS keep a Failsafe on all your Nitro rides!!!!! I have run without them in the past and I always feel nervous about it.

Ofna and someone else is making mini failsafes now so there shouldnt be a problem with fitting them somewhere on the ride.

Thanks guys. I had an incident when my Savage lost radio signal and it went straight for the lake, luckily, the lake was starting to freeze and it went all the way across it, plus our lake is not that big, whew! That is why I am looking for suggestions/recommendations on what type of FS to use.

TRD, what type of FS is that, that I presume you drilled a hole on the sides of the radio box to fit in the wirings???

:D

I use the Ofna mini on all three of my rides. Like Error401 mentioned, I have heard mixed reviews. Someone people say it makes their throttle servo twitchy but I have not had a problem. Heres a pic of how small it is in my LD3.

venom FS...
that was the only one my LHS was selling...
I have not problems with it..
I really can't compare it to others...
but as long as I had one...

you wanna hear a messd up on story

The Budwiser Speed boat.. over $1000 worth.... my LHS told him to get a FS... $25.... $25!!!!

He turned it down

Took it on the Fox River...

first try...

lost a signal

and watched it $1000 boat go down the river... all the way down to the damn....

but at least he had a nice radio that came with it...

I have the Ofna failsafe and my throttle servo does seem to be twitching some, maybe that's what is causing it. I'm using a JR XS3 radio.

i am using the same radio system... problem is that your wires are crossing over the servo which cause the twitching.. or low voltage power...

I have a random unbranded FS unit on my SS and my steering servo is twitchy. Never occured to me that it might be the FS. Now I'm going to investigate. I'll keep you posted. I use a JR XR3i with the metal geared steering servo.
Happy New Year!

Spent a few hours investigating today. Tried the radio box without my FS, just in the house without the motor running. My steering servo is twitchy even without the FS.
Anyone got any tips for stopping twitchy servos? Anyone know what causes them to twitch?
Either way a FS is a must, these trucks aren't cheap.
Later.

You probably have a screw loose. I don't mean that personally of course, I mean your truck. Any metal to metal contact that's not tight whether it's a screw or a linkage touching the frame or anything like that will cause twitching.
I run a Dynamite fail safe attached to the top of the battery case with Velcro so I can see the L.E.D. So far it's kicked in 4 or 5 times due to low battery voltage and saved me a lot of time, money, and grief. Haven't had any twitching......except for my left eye from time to time, I'll just be sitting there and all of a sudden out of nowhere..........

By the way, Error401.
PINK FLOYD!!! Yeah B A B Y! Nice sig.

Thanks for the tips to help the twitching. I'll try a couple things to see if that clears it up. I can see where crossed wires could cause it, but I've never heard of the loose screw deal (not that I'm doubting it mind you). The FS is definately worth it though. It has kicked in a couple times from a low receiver pack.

The only twitching I've heard of being cause by a FS is on the Throttle.

I have a twitchy steering servo with the XS3 as well but I've narrowed it down to either a bogus receiver of a cafeine addicted servo. Even with all electronics OUT of the ride I can hear it twitching.... I dont "see" it moving but I can hear it. IOve never had a twitchy throttle servo.

I've got the Venom Failsafe on my Savage 25, and I haven't had any problems with it. There's plenty of room in the radio box even with the 3rd channel reverse. I suggest trying to keep the power wires away from the other miscellaneous wires as this predominantly is what causes servo twitch.
