My Savage has finally succumbed to the fabled "OWB" outage that seems to haunt this engine. I got about 2 gallons out of it.

I like the roto-start, so don't want to convert it. Are there any aftermarket ones that will work and are more durable?

Thanks

I've not heard of any upgrade replacements for it, unfortunately. Getting two gallons out of yours is pretty good. A lot of people don't even get that much life.

Got it. Thanks.

That is what I thought but wanted to check. It has been slipping for the past 1/2 gallon...so knew it was coming. I don't get to wrench on our Savage enough---so this is good opportunity to go through everything.

Do you have the K4.6? I thought I needed to change my OWB as well but I took it apart and cleaned it, sealed it back and it works great! It's already ran thru at least another 8 tanks of fuel already with no problems. So far my current engine has run thru 4 gallons so if 2 gallons is the normal I'm pretty happy.

The 2013 savage x is different than the previous trucks as far as the starting system goes, including the owb. I haven't had my hands on one, but I've read it was changed. Idk how new your truck is Nitro Nerd but apparently the new system has set screws that can come loose and give the appearance of a bad owb.

I've had it about a year now. Already changed it. Looks like a normal OWB...I did not bother cleaning it, however....just threw it away. ;-)

Use a drill the roto starts r junk I just use a drill with the roto shaft

I have a drill, but have not had any problems with the roto-start. I hear about people having problems all the time..guess I've been lucky.

Yeah, ironically, I just fixed my neighbor's OWB on his new Savage...and it's the type that has the set screw. I went ahead and thread locked them (as for some reason they were not).

I'm glad that info was useful. Having seen both, do you think the new style is a improvement over the older?

I like the fact it does not have a gear box (the shaft fits through the bumper easier). Not sure if the quality is better....but I'd probably rather have that one than mine.
