I was wondering how come I've seen a lot of Tmaxx's without the wire going to the glow plug? I would assume you would save on weight by removing the ezstart? How would you start the sucker then?:shy:

If it's an aftermarket engine with a different mount, it can be started with a bump box (starter box).
Or can be started with a roto start depending the application.

A lot of people remove the heater wire because using a normal heater starts the engine easier. With the EZ start heater, it doesn't start heating the plug until fuel is being pumped as the engine turns over. In most cases, you put the heater on for 2-3 seconds before you try to start it so the plug is good and hot first.

On my revo, I didn't even try to use the ez start. I removed it and installed a pull starter as soon as I got it.

Ahhhh...

Rat,
I can remove the wire and use a igniter if I want, correct? Don't laugh :loser: but, what is the little motor for that's beside the mill? Is that just for the EZ start. Do some people remove that as well? If so, how would you start it? Just with a starter box?:loser:
The loser smilies are directed at me. Why would you install a pullstart instead of the ez start? I posted the same time as you olds.

The EZ start can be removed. You would have to put a pull start on the engine and start it that way.
Yes you can remove the wire and use an ignitor.

As far as the pull start 'vs' ez start, it's what you like.
Some people rather pull start than push a button.

I have an igniter for my savage le and thought why not do it that way. So, thanks. Also, I'm looking at getting a subscription to the site and was wondering what it would cost Canadian or would you prefer a cheque in US funds (certified?).

Removing the blue wire, & using a "quality" glow ignitor makes all the difference.
You will get a stronger burn on the glowplug, allowing for easier starts. You can also opt to install a pull start rather than using the EZ starter. You can then remove the electric motor. Ratzo may have gotten confused with the Revo, but I have never seen a TMaxx that could be used on a starter box. Correct me if I'm wrong.. Once you are comfortable with your tuning abilities, and have your mill running strong, I would suggest removing the EZ start & going to a pullstart. In the meantime, remove the blue wire & pick yourself up a good glow ignitor. Get a rechargeable one, not the type that takes normal batteries..

Yes.
I did think we were talking about a Revo.
Sorry.

I wasn't going to say anything. I think there is an aftermarket chassis plate for the T that allows bump starting, but I could be wrong.

Hugo, the motor and the glow plug use power from the starter stick but operation of the motor can be independent of the blue GP wire.

BTW, please join. I don't know if cheques are accepted, but heck, if ti is money, I am sure someone here can figure it out! :wasted:

correct they don't make a starter box for the tmaxx but there is a hand held starter with a wheel on it like a starter box that you could use depending on the exhaust system you are useing it goes in from the side not from the bottom

Imbroken, thanks. I will look into the recharg. glow igniter and the pullstart. My tmaxx is used but I got a good deal with some upgrades on it. I want to fiddle to learn. So, this is a start.

Plaidfish, what kind of $$$ does that entail? What else do you have to get for it? You're not allowed to be offline when I need you.LOL
I just bought the igniter and I didn't think to ask you guys first about which one I should get. Turns out I did buy the one that has a charger. Thanks god...I didn't want to have to take it back.

Hugo, the ones with the rechargeable sub-c batt is the hot tip. I use one with a long tip so I can guarantee I can use it on any rig without worries if it fits down long enough. Mine is a Dubro.

I checked a few sites and I am not entirely sure but I think it might be the Integy chassis that mounts the motor in a certain way to allow bump starting. BTW, Tower has Duratrax rotostart back plates for the Maxx for 5.00.

I think Hardcore Racing makes the mutant maxx chassis so you can use a bump starter... it isn't a cheap conversion if I remember correctly.

Here's a photo:
hcr-mmax.jpg

It requires two sets of parts: Mutant Maxx Conversion $200 and 21 conversion $200 (I think it needs both of these)

Tower says you also need a set of rear bulkheads that are aluminum HCR Bulks $80

Then again, I could be totally wrong... but I believe this was the maxx conversion that would ultimatly end up allowing you to use a bump starter.

Revo, The integy chassis doesn't allow bump start (I have that one too)....the JT racing / Rix gear & Mutant maxx ar ethe only maxx chassis I've seen that allow bump starting.....I've tried all 3...the RIx gear is a neat idea but if you loose/break a part you're screwed (like mine right now)...the JT was the best one I've tried...the mutant maxx is just the one I ended up keeping  ....so I made mine work....Hugo unless you have a machine shop at your disposal I wouldn't recommend the Mutant kit......It left such a bad taste in my mouth about a poor design they sold and then just dumped responsibility for making it work on the customer....that's wrong IMO.....the only HCR part I still have in my kit is the bottom chassis plate...I replaced every other part they made w/ better ones I made...well better design, I couldn't get Ti to make the parts from.......if you really want to make a truggy from a maxx...get the UE/Dace truggy chassis...it's a copy of the JT race one......much better laid out design, shorter wheelbase and more gearing options.......
