When I built my SS kit I replaced the stock brake with an HPI dual disc brake setup. I used the two brake shoe mounting screws that came with the dual brake kit and I made sure that I did not over tighten them. They screw into the plastic transmission case in the same spot as the stock screws.

After about ¾ of a gallon the brakes felt weak even though my receiver battery was full at the time. I checked the linkage and I noticed that there was a lot of play in it. I figured that the brakes were wearing so I tightened it up. The brakes felt great again but after a few more tanks the linkage got really loose again.

I took a close look at the brakes and I noticed that the two shoe mounting screws looked a little loose in the transmission case. I tried to tighten them up a bit and they just kept spinning. They still have some tension but they will not hold under pressure. The plastic holes in the transmission case appear to be stripped out and I now need to replace the transmission case.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I thought about using CA, problem is it would probably destroy the trans case if I try to remove the screws.

There's enough room in that area to put in a small area to rethread for a metal sleeve to fit a finely threaded screw. I would consider that first. Don't do glue unless you have to and if you do, put in a nice flexible glue like Insta-Flex for gap filling.

Good Luck

I tried the glue & some ran down to the brake piston and it froze the brake piston in the transmission disabling the brakes

I had to take the back of the truck apart, fight with the glued shoe screws and then douse the piston with nail polish remover. I was able to finally get the piston out but I damaged it a bit. I have to get this thing back together in time for the HPI Challenge this weekend.

My advice to anyone trying this, take the back of the truck off and make sure you only put glue in the screw holes. The top screw hole is very close to the brake piston.
