Hiya All

I picked up my used and somewhat battered savage 21 a week ago :) Cost me a whopping £50, so yes, you all guessed it, I'm from UK.

Yay i own a nitro car, always had electric in my youth :D

Now, i have stripped her back, cleaned her all up, stripped down the motor and rebuilt it for experience :)

The pull start was stuffed, the spring has broken, somehow i managed to fix that :whhooo: on about the 50,000th time of trying :hehe: but i am just waiting on a rotostart back plate from the US, then thats history!

It had the old fuel tank on, leaky as hell, got a new one with no primer. Now she runs and doesn't cut out all the time. Bonus!

Popped on an integy tuned pipe too, all in aluminium. I have a steel 52t gearbox drive gear on order, as i have stripped 2 placcy ones already :( seems the engine mount was missing a screw or two!

I have a lot to learn, I'm running on all stock needles at present, though have done 5 tanks of fuel, so i guess its time to start tuning a bit :D

I guess she stands me in for well under 150 with all the new bits, personally i think its a bargin!

Just wanted to drop by and say hello as I'm sure ill be begging for tips and help at some point in the new hobby :pepper:

Thanks for reading, when i get the body on and some new wheels ill post up some pics, right now, i just made her all filthy again :banana-mario:

well I'm convinced i am not gettin second gear. so have reset the gear shift point 3.5 from closed, and well see.

i hear no gear change or nothing. no rev drop? dunno if I'm looking for one lol

i like tinkering and this thing is made for tinkering :D

once i understand how the darn thing functions!

which model did you get pred?

Congrats on the purchase. I have a Savage S-25 myself with several durability upgrades. You should look into a better steering servo and servo saver (have the HPI aluminum one), check the diffs for bad teeth, and replace/rebuild as needed and make sure you shim them for best operation.

A hump pack will give you more power too compared to the four AA batteries too...

Good luck with it and definitely post up some pics!

Mark

It sounds like you really made out on the purchase. Great choice on the tear down to get familiar with all the parts.
Keep us posted, we'll keep you running.

For second gear you need to have the tune fairly close. Engine rpm and truck speed work together to determine the shift point. If the engine is a bit rich or sluggish,it won't get enough speed and rpm to shift.

hi mark, thanks for that :) i was thinking steering next as this thing does NOT go round corners LOL!

Also have read about upgrading stock dog bones, not 100% on the name of the part, I'm thinking its down the end of the driveshaft?

Will any 6 volt pack do? I only recently threw away all my tamaiya hump packs grrrrr LOL!

Will look into these servo savers too, do integy make one?

Cheers rolex :) I think there wasn't much wrong to start with, i only stripped her into bits to get to know her better :)

I'm bound to be on with something broken soon enough. Yesterday i managed to pick up a stone under the small pinion (to the 52t spur into gb). Instant cut out. Then i couldnt pull the starter and thought uh oh, my first seize, stripped out the BB engine and found the criminal, fuelled up and went right back out for more bashing!

I just need to set up the LSN now i think. She is pretty spritely off the line, but ill pinch test her and see where we go. Ill post up results, but i did read a thread yesterday. 2-3 secs its lean, over 4 its rich or similar (or perhaps the wrong way round entirely lol!)

Should i be listening for an rpm drop or noise change or something? i dont really know what I'm listening for, but at least the adjustment is ready to test after work today :)

I am not pulling wheelies off the line yet, so she does need a bit of a tune, but I'm waiting on my laser thermometer before i go silly :) For now, half a turn lean from stock is all i will risk!

Thanks for the welcome guys, ill get out the poslishing cloth and get some pics up :D

I picked up a Savage 25 with several upgrades, which include:

x tvps
steel roll bar
traxxas 2075 waterproof steering servo
aftermarket wheels and tires
force .32 engine
boulder holder body with color changing paint
aftermarket springs
and some other odds and ends..

And i also ordered:

FLM lcg tvps and servo mounts, a hitec 5955 steering serov (waterproof one will go to throttle duties), and a new servo saver along with some other FLM odds and ends.

Sounds cool :)

I have shortlisted servo saver , new servo and dogbones next :)

Stay away from integy parts. They use soft, low quality material which makes the parts weak. I'm surprised nobody's mentioned this yet...;)

thanx for the tip metalhead :) been drooling over parts on integy site, ill stop now :)

which do u recoomend mate?

cheers metalhead, though these appear to be mainly savage x parts? one assumes theres a major corssover of parts i have yet to find :)
