my friend has a redcat shockwave, he hasnt realy taken great care of it but it should run, he says hes at factory settings but for some reason it just will not start, we put a brand new glowplug in, th fuel isnt bad because i run it just fine. any ideas, he says the engine is sealed nice and good but idk we tried using a drill to spin the starter shaft, but nothing it didnt even sound like it wanted to fire
 
Does the engine have any compression? Is the carb primed? Is the glow plug any good?

primed the carb, new glow plug compression is good. I'm thinking it may be the carb idk the engine didnt even try to fire unless you think the sleeve mightbe on backwards but idk how thats put in, I'm not familiar with the iner workings of that engine
 
With the drill start, the engine itself is turning over not just the starter spinning right? Is there any fuel getting in the clylinder? When you pull the plug is it wet?

If the engine is turning and you're not sure on the fuel, put a few drops directly in the clyinder,spin the engine before installing the plug then install and see if it fires. DO NOT put very much in the cylinder or you could hydro-lock the engine and damage it. Spinning without the plug will insure there isn't too much in there.

EDIT: BTW what sleeve are you concerned might be backward?
 
i am not new to nitro engines, the engine is turning over, you can hear the compressions, we tried putting fuel directly into the cylider but still nothing I'm thinking its the carb the sleeve around the piston, if thats in backwards then the portswouldnt open at the right time and the engine wouldntbe able to run
 
Just asking.

If the engine has good compresion and the plug is good,igniter working properly, it will fire and run a few revs with priming in the clyinder. Throttle needs to be full open usually doing this.

Are you sure it's not flooding? I see it says he's at factory settings, they are usually way rich especially on a used engine.

What sleeve are you referring to and why would it be backward? Has this engine been disassembled recently?
 
the sleeve that surounds the piston. if thats in backwards wich idk if it can be in his engine that would resault in the ports not opening at the corect strokes of the piston. yes his engine has been diasaembled recently
 
Most engines have a pin in the top to locate the sleeve, but I've seen many ignore it and put a sleeve in backwards anyway. They usually will still run but with tuning issues. Hard starting being one of them.
 
I tried using a drill to start my DuraTrax Warhead when I got it....was doing everything 100% right.....found out the hard way the cordless drill just wasn't spinning fast enough. I hooked up a RotoStart and it was running 3 seconds later....

Sometimes it's the simple things? Is it spinning the engine over fast enough? ;-)

its spinning the engine faster than a pullstart will so it should fire, he went sealent crazy on like everything I'm thinking he acidentaly covered one of the needles or someting with sealant
 
You can't put the sleeve in wrong but you can put the piston in backwards. Make sure the carb idle gap is open enough. Factory settings are way too rich for a used engine. Lean the needles some.

it should still start tho...i think i might pull the carb apart tonight...he went sealent crazy and i think he might have blocked the fuel valve (or watever the F u wanna call it)
