I am looking at a OFN51232 Picco .28 w/Pilot w/Pull-Start . I was just wondering if this engine would be quicker than the stock. Also, are any known issues with engines. Also how difficult are they start compared to the stock.

Thanks guys.

If you are patient with it, it will be the best engine you ever owned for a monster truck.
Picco's are very durable, have brutal power but they do not break in easy like your 4.6 did. They require a proper heatcycle breakin. The engine could and probably will still have mechanical pinch after 1 gallon of fuel. It will not let you lean it until it relaxes.
Rush through the breakin and you'll have a 200 dollar paperweight.
Pullstart.....I suggest going roto start unless you enjoy blisters and frustration.

ahh i see! well i still can not even get my stock engine tunned. It runs about 200 degrees f. On take off it skids to the side on take off and lift the wheels a bit yet now full out wheelies. I tried the lsn and it does nothing but bog or the engine hesitates. I got it to wheelie three times on well groomed grass. yet i cannot dot it on demand on the tar and chip road i live on. I am 80 percent through my first gallon. So i figure my engine may of been a dud out of the factory. So i am looking at a new one. Unless you have any ideas.

i put the picco .28 in my truck it is really hard to tune it and i still bogs out but hell it pulls wheelys like nothing i really can't keep the front wheels on the ground and every wheely bar i put on my truck i bent it so i made my own but it has alot of power and i still have yet to see mine go because i can not pull the trigger all the way back because it bogs out on me but i love the motor and the stock motor is not even compare to the picco at all

Picco's are so easy to tune I can tune them with no knowledge of the factory settings, but they have to be fully broken. They have to have good 30% fuel and the right pipe.
I think both of you guys need to put more fuel thru your engines. HPI pipes are not good, especially for Picco. JP-2 or 3's work. 086 or 9886 style pipes work.

ahhh crap i just bought a hpi tunned pipe! damn it! will do! should i get some 30 percent for the factory engine as well.

Yes always run 30% in BB engines. The HPI polished pipe does fine on the 4.6 engine. Find a fuel with no more than 12% oil. The engine will run better and tune easier, just remember to richen it up 1/8 turn on the LSN and 1/3 turn on the HSN. Maybe more. If you are changing fuel brands, let the engine idle for a few minutes and then take it easy for the first tank. The different lubricants need time to work their way into the bearings.

i got some 30 10 i give it a try tomorrow!
