Hey Guys,

Wondering if you can help me out here.

My brother and I both have Nitro Rustlers with TRX Pro .15's in them. Question is this. once we fire them up and drive them around for the first few minutes, all is good. But after about 4 minutes it will hesitate and if I don't let off the throttle it will stall out.

Could it be overheating? I don't have a temp gun, I know:mad:

But maybe it could be an adjustment like richening the HSS?

Despite this and my spur gear getting eatin to poop, I am having fun! lol.

4min of high speed running or just 4min of slow running??? And have you tried making the mix richer??? You can put a drop of water on the top of the head near the glow plug if it boils off in 3 to 4 seconds you should not be to hot, if it takes long er then this (3 to 4 sec) your to rich and can lean it out more. But you should get a temp gun its the best way to tell the temp as I can see you already know.

Also after it stalls do you have to wait to start it or will it start right away???

Hey Hunter,

Once the engine stalls it won't start up right after, only if I let it sit for a minute. I did the spit test and I would stay it started to boil in 2-3 seconds.

Yes, I wish I had a temp gun but here where I live has NO rc nitro stuff! it is all order online.

I hope you guys can help me out! because since my brother and i got our cars we haven't had the chance to actually enjoy a good ride together.

Oh yes, I wouldn't say it is High Speed runing I am doing. More or less quick snaps then break and accel "in an underground parking lot" :p

Thanks

No No Matt,

if I start it up, it is fine. It will idle a little high so I will turn the idle screw down so it idles nice. Then I will hit the gas and I will cruse around not going to far and taking it easy. After about, I would say.. 3 minutes it will start to hesitate and when it starts doing so if I don't back off the gas it will stall.

How do I know, with out a temp gun, if I am runing to rich? what would the perfect setting look like. I know there is supposed to be a thin trail of smoke coming from the muffler?

Ok if you say that it is runing to rich, then why wouldn't it do this right from the start?

See, I don't want to lean it out to much that I burn up the motor, that really scares me! I NEED A TEMP GUN!

But if you guys could help me out here until I actually do get one, I would be greatful!

Thanks again!

Thanks Matt,

I will give that a try once I get some new gears. The engine bolts must have losened and the gears didnt mesh properly and well, you know how the story goes :p

Say Matt, you wouldn't happen to have some good pinion/spur gear combo's that you would like to sell me would you?

Where I am from you have to order all your stuff as there isn't one hobby shop here that carrys Nitro goodies.

BTW my truck is a Traxxas Nitro Hawk.

It's not that old Matt. only 3 1/2 years. there's actually the exact same car as mine on ebay except I have a bigger motor and people are jumping all over it =)

I doubt it matt.

But comparing mine to my brothers newer rustler, mine is much better made, fame wise it is much stronger, maybe slightly heavy vs my brothers but still, for the price I paid for it it is a great machine!

Hey thanks Matt!

I would have never thought of that. Is their a certain brand that you would prefer? or is any bluew lock tight good.

Got a question. Ok first off, yes, the big gear is pooched. I was driving it the other day and all of a sudden YINNNNNG the engine was reving high, DOH. yup, so anyway's. The truck is geared basicly for all out top end speed and not accel. It has a 66and a 21 I believe? have to take the smaller gear off to actually know but I know the large gear is actually a 66. My brother has a 70 on his and it is FAST! really fast accel, like instant fast. I want mine like that! but will that greatly affect engine life?

What would be a good gear combo for good accel/top end?

Thanks again for the tip!

Jay

Did you richen the mix yet??? If you did what happend??? Also you can get a temp gun from Radio shack or Sears. Radio shack will have them cheaper but the one from Sears is a better, at least I think it is:)

I agree with Hunter on the Sears temp gun, either that one or the Raytek gun are great

The onboard temp gauges work but can sometimes not be accurate

There has been great debate over whether or not a temp gun is a "must" have, I can see both sides....

Are they worth the money?? absolutely they are..... do you "have" to have one??? no you don't

when tuned right you should see a light blue strem of smoke (if your running traxxas' top fuel only) and to know if your running too rich is you should see A LOT of blue smoke and raw fuel coming out of the pipe. and yes i know what you mean by leaning it out too much i learned the hard way: just driving and suddenly it stops and PRESTO!! dead engine.

Hey Guys,

If it isn't one thing it is another! yikes, my spur gear grades to nothing and then my freakin computer monitor blows up, WHAT'S NEXT! "knock on wood"

Last night I was over at my brothers place and I took the whole thing apart, see. the stupid thing with the Traxxas Nitro Hawk is you have to rip the engine out plus the whole ass end to get at the freakin spur gear. ANYWAYS! after much inticapation to get this 70T spur in I find out that it WILL NOT fit, SHITZ! I was so upset!

The gear was to big for the truck ant it would actually rub on the driveshaft. Do they make 70-72T gears that are actually made for my model? or are smaller in general? I am bumed out.

And to answer the question if I have richened it up yet.. no because I can't even put a gear in :(

Lookin forward to any help here

Thanks

well, thouse spur gears will not fit (and you already know that)because there ment for the t-maxx. I think the n 4-tec gear should fit. its like 64 tooth or something like that. and do you still have your fiction pegs?(the little red things in the spur gear).

hope this helps:rolleyes:

Hey Mike,

Infact, the gear that I was trying to put in was a spare from my brothers rustler.

Yes, I still have the friction pegs. I don't want to stick a 64T in there as the 66T in there now I already hate, I want faster acceleration! What the heck can I do? I am stumped:eek:

Yeah Mike, but I already have a lower geared spur gear as it is. It's a 66T! lol.
