Engine trouble

Hello guys,

I've bought a second hand Tamiya nitro RC car with a fs-12s engine. I found the manual on Tamiya and restored the engine to "facory default". Cleaned it and I'm now able to start it and keep it running. But only when it is removed from the car (free running).
When I install it on the car it runs for about 1s and then shuts down.
I have the feeling it "drowns" because a lot of nitro is coming out of the exhaust.
I have no idea what I need to change/check to keep it running.

Any ideas/thoughts on this one?

The factory sets them very rich for the break in. You need to tune it for performance. Look through the following thread for some helpful info and keep us posted. Well help you get it tweaked.

Thanks for your reply. The thread you suggested is really helpfull. It contains lots of interesting stuff.
I followed the flow chart and tried to keep the engine running but I was unsuccessful.

These are my findings:
- engine runs fine without any load (not mounted on chassis)
- engine dies immediately on chassis. It does not rev up so I tried to close the LSN one eight of a turn -> No difference. Turned another eight of a turn -> No difference.
- also opening the LSN does not change the behavior of the engine.
- I need to prime the engine every time or it won't start
- I need to put in some throttle to allow it to start
- A lot of unburned fuel comes out of the exhaust

Hopefully this rings a bell...

Sounds like its overly rich to me try leaning out both needles to try and get it running then tune it from there. One thing says whats going on if you have alot of unburned fuel coming out either either really lean or your priming it to much which if your priming it everytime your trying to crank there is way to much fuel in the case. Your motor is flooded I'm sure to. take the plug out turn the car upside down and pull the starter to run the excess fuel out. When I'm cranking my cars i look at the fuel inlet and watch the fuel hit it once it hits hit i usually pull two or 3 more times then crank
