I currently have a TRX 2.5 in my Tmaxx. Will a TRX 2.5r from a revo be a direct fit or do I have to make some changes? I'm assuming it will work but want to make sure before I buy it.

Yes it is a direct fit.

If your doing the engine replacement plan from traxxas the 3.3 will fit with no mods as well.

do the 3.3 it is sooo worth it, 130 and you have a newer bigger engine
