I have a stock t-maxx 2.5 and after I start it and run it for a minute it starts to smoke, then stalls, then its very hard to start back up, and its hard to tune

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to lean !
put your needles back to factory settings "in your manuel"
then tune from there. it will be very rich after you do that. lean it out in 1 hr. incriments.

good luck!

it sounds either way too lean or u got a air leak which is causing it to run lean. if going back to factory settings doesn't work, check for air leaks in the fuel and pressure tubing, fuel tank, around the carb, and eninge back plate, and cooling head.

later

yeah, air leaks is what i forgot to say

if i were you id seal up the carb with RTV. it works.

If the engine head is smoking after running it for just a bit, I will have to agree on one point. Your engine is way too hot.

When engines ae lean they run exceptionally well, and it can be deceptive. You think, wow, its running good.. then all of the sudden it will stall, and not start back up (really hard on the engine)

Even though it just might be the needle settings, here's what I would do.

#1 set needles to factory (don't start it yet)
#2 go to the LHS get all new fuel tubing and replace all yours.(at .30cents a foot it's worth it)
#3 Check the carb, they have a way or scooting up. loosen it up, push down on it, and tighten it back up.
#4 Check the needle fittings to make sure they are not loose.
#5 check your fuel tank for cracks, and make sure the lid is tight.

I'm sure I am missing some, but these should help you nail down a leak, it's good routine maintenence when you can't get an engine to tune.

I just cut a hole in the windsheild and it is a few turns past stock settings and it isn't smoking now. I think I have to tune the lo speed needle b/c I haven't yet.

with no air flow over the motor it will get hot quick. Good idea on the hole :D

yah you might have to tune your low-speed. the only time my 2.5 started overheating was because the lsn was too lean
