I have a stock T-maxx 2.5 (not an "r") and I want to replace the engine. I haven't been happy with the stock engine at all. To get good power it always seems to run 325*+. I changed the pipe to an Integy dual chamber (look like it has dual exhaust now) and it helped a little but not much. I have had many, many nitro engines in planes and helicopters so I can tune an engine. I just can't consistantly keep the temp down on this thing.

I'm looking at the OS .18 and .21 engines for the T-maxx. I know the .18 has been discontinued but the LHS has one for $170 and I can probably get it a little cheaper. The .21 is about $100 more. Here's my questions:
1. Will the .18 be an improvement over the stock engine?
2. Will the .21 tear the driveline out of the truck? I don't want to have to replace everything.
3. Will my EZ start bolt up to the .21? I'm pretty sure it will on the .18.
4. With both engines, what gears, if any, will have to be replaced?

Basically I want a little better engine but don't want to have to replace a bunch of other stuff. All I'm looking for is enough power to pull wheelies without the engine overheating. Will either or both of these engines accomplish this without having to upgrade the whole truck? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Trent

If you don't want too much power and you want a 100% bolt in there is always the option of the TRX 3.3. Otherwise, I think the .18 is the better decision between the two engines you mention.

I thought the 3.3 would be too much power requiring transmission and driveline component upgrades. The .18 says it is a direct bolt-in replacement for the 2.5.

the 3.3 is like a .20 so yeah, it might be a lot of power for 2.5 drivetrain components. Go with the .18 if you can get it. It had always been a common upgrade that I've seen on the net.

That's kinda what I was thinking also. If I'm not mistaken, the .18 is a 3.0. It's still more than the stock engine but not as much a 3.3.

One option that i had in my tmaxx was a OS 18 cv-rx. It was a direct drop in and threw the front wheels in the air every time. you can find it on towerhobbies for only $109

Zachary and Racer, thanks for the suggestion and feedback. I'll check out the 18cv-rx. I also found the 18tm for 125.00.

yeah the o.s. shouldn't do to much damage, if anything you might wanna go foward only though, beefy gears.
