Engine Question

I have a Violator RTR with the .26 engine. Today I started the car and let it rev a little. I ran it for about 1 min then the engine just turned off by itself. I tried starting it again with my shaft start and noticed the there was no turning of the engine with a click (ie there was no force at all) but instead the spur gear from the engine that connects to the gear for the car spinned very quickly. Whats going on-do I have a bad clutch? I want to know what the problem is before I unscrew everything-any ideas?

sounds like a seized clutch. most likely the bearings. maybe the shoes melted to the clutchbell. you wont know till you open it up.

El Destructo just bought one last month and the clutch seemed a bit weak. He blew the clutch shoes, actually they fell apart, long before he was finished breaking in the engine. I'd opt to replace the stock shoes with alum. Remember they will be triple shoes so make sure the ones you buy are triple clutch shoes.

Don't know about the Ofna ones but the Kyosho ones will. The springs from your old clutch will work too providing that they are not trashed and it's not too likely that they will be.

Actually opened it up and it wasn't the clutch but the one-way bearing, I must have cranked my shaft start too much

Was the one way bearing oil soaked? That will cause them to slip. You clean them with denatured alcohol or acetone, and blow them dry with an air hose. Do that a few times, and also clean the shaft. While you have it apart, if oil on it caused the problem, check the rear bearing or bushing for play, and if it's okay, seal your backplate with red RTV silicone and let it cure for 24 hours before starting the engine.

The bearing was worn out completely, thanks for the advice. I'm also taking this opportunity to upgrade the Violator to a 2-speed. Tower has the parts for 109 dollars but has it on back-order, any idea where else I can purchase the same?

I'm sure this buggy will fly even with the stock force .26 after the upgrade.
