ok, well i just recently bought a new Rc10gt2. i did a heat cycle break in method. i can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. i heard that the hottest you ever want to get an engine is 250. on my first tank i didnt get over 180, then i went 200, 210, 220...and so on. i have about 10 tanks on the engine and there is more than enough smoke comming from the exaust. if i didnt have my temp gun i would lean it based on its performance. but the issue is I'm already getting upto 250 degrees without even over throttleing the truck. I'm only full throttle in short bursts and not intensively pounding on the throttle. so my question is why am i running at 250? should i lean it out, even tho I'm at 250? if anyone has an associated .15 could you tell me what engine temperature your running? thank you in advance for all your help. (i am not new to the hobby i have had an rc10gt for 6 years)

I can only think that you're getting to those temps because the vehicle isn't moving and getting air flowing though the cooling head. If it sits there in one spot, it'll get pretty warm.

its moving and fast to i'm just not pinning it. i cut half the front window out like it said...should i trim out more around the head of the engine? maybe i'm getting that vacuum effect from not having a big enough exit for the air

edit: it might be my fuel. i had 3/4 of a gallon left over from last year that i'm running. maybe some of the oil defused or something?

That's very possbile, it can't hurt to open it up some more. If all else fails the only other thing i could say is to richen up the mix a little and see what it does. try making the exit hole bigger first though. I think I have heard of engines getting up around 270 without issue though.. but that may only apply to certain engines

i was watching some of Squirrel's YouTube videos and in one he shows him running his .21 i believe at 270 without a body on it. although since its a larger engine its probably supposed to get a little hotter.

The oil doesn't evaporate, the nitro does. If the fuel is bad, it will lack power and make a gooey mess from it not burning the fuel right. If it even runs. If it's getting hot and you have a lot of smoke, the lsn is too lean or there's an air leak.

Not trying to hijack, but is there a way to tell if the fuel is bad before using it? I have a half gallon of Byron's 20% that game with my Mutilator, and it's at least a year old, but seems pretty well sealed.

I'm pretty sure the lsn isn't to lean. it was bogging bad almost to the point of stalling on acceleration and i leaned it a little and it got rid of that problem. i'm going to try to back off the hsn a hare and see if that helps it tomorrow.

It's actually the alcohol / methanol,.....whatever it's technical name is...that evaporates. It has a cooling effect to it as well, without it your engine will run hotter.
