Hi, I am fairly new to RC and have a HPI Savage XL 5.9.
I have run approximately 10 tanks of fuel now.
The temp is approx. 230 degrees.
Idles fairly well, although tempermental.
Fairly responsive through rev range.
Braking at low speed is no problem.
Braking from high speed keeps cutting the engine out.
I have checked the idle adjustment (is OK) and have cleaned the air filter.
Also put in a hotter glow plug to assist with idle.
Nice blue smoke on acceleration and some at idle.
Any suggestions on why the engine cuts out when I brake at high speed?
Thanks, would appreciate any suggestions.
Do I need to adjust mid range mixture setting????

Sounds like your flooding the engine when you release of the thottle back to idle, however I do not know how to fix that. Maybe you could slowly release of the thottle instead of WOT then back to the idle gap.

Sorry I can't provide more helpful infomation.

Too lean on HSN, you are starving the engine for fuel. That's why it shuts off only after wide open passes. Richen the HSN some, lean the lsn. The engine is probably not broken in fully either, it needs a full gallon before you try to get max power from it.
As for the MSN, NEVER touch it. I have played with the MSN before on different engines, not worth it. You'll screw it up bad if you mess with it. For every turn you make to the MSN you have to do the opposite to the LSN to keep the mixture the same. If you lean the MSN, you are also leaning the LSN. So you have to richen the LSN to compensate.
Put the correct cooler plug back in it. also.

Thanks for the help. I was wondering if the HSN may be a little lean and will follow your suggestions tomorrow when I play, or was that have 'fatherly time with my Son'.

It takes skills to run Nitro, anybody can plug in a battery. Besides there is only so much power you can use. Anything over 2 hp, is a waste. You're just destroying parts faster.

My Son bought a Savage XL and it has run in with only minor adjustment required on the HSN. Mine is running better with the LSN a little leaner and HSN a little richer. These machines are amazingling strong and we are ejoying racing them against each other. There so good, my brother just ordered one.
Spare parts have impressed me and are cheaper than I expected. I had a look at Frontline Hobbies and would be interested to know where other people buy there spares from.
Thanks, have fun
