RC Driving Style
For the last couple of days I have been working on getting my eng. to run. It would fire right up, but when I removed the igniter it would run for about 30 sec. I thought it was my plug so i put in a new one and we repetted the same process. Then I read that if you leave fuel in the eng. after run time for to long. it can gum up. So i broke her down, nothing. Tried agian, no luck. Then I disided to look at the plug one more time. guess what it glows and its a bright red glow so I new it was not the plug so I thought. After several days of this I Looked at the plug one more time. I could not believe it bright red agian. Then i was so mad at this point that I shook the plug and igniter in my hand and then the hole thang made sents. There was a short in the (Plug) it was bright red untill you give it a vibe then its out. Needless to say that plug is long gone and I'm on the road agian. :cheers:Point of the story is, " Just because its new does not mean its good."

Not quite sure what you mean here butWhat do you mean when you say "SHORT"?
 
Umm if you are talking that the coil element in the plug that glows, it is attached to the bottom of the plug all the way inside of it.

Never heard of anyone refer to a plug having a short.So yes it would be considered a short if unharmed. I would consider the plug "Open" if the coil element breaks.

Hehe, maybe he means it "shorted" or "short cirquit" or something like that. Anyway I think its broken :)
 
The whole point of a glow plug is to create a short circuit. If its not glowing its an open circuit. Thats it and there is no argueing to that.
 
Any heating element is, in fact, a controlled short circuit. That includes a light bulb.
The LHS had a run of bad plugs one time, where they looked fine, but didn't lite. Touch the 'leg' of the element to the bottom of the plug, and it lit.
