Ok guys going to be getting my brushless emaxx diffs in soon. I have ordered the hotracing diff cups. Going with bad horsie locking diff grease in the rear. My question is should I put the fluid back in or use grease. If fluid should I just put the stock back in or a heavier weight. Truck is going to see some track use. I was thinking about putting lucas oil additive in instead of the stock fluid.

If you're running a bb I would go for 100k in the rear any thicker and it is a real pain to get the I beam in
Thats what I run in my bb maxx and that hooks up well on most surfaces

With the BL diffs in a Maxx on track I usually use nothing more than 30K rear. I often run 50K front/30K rear. I have but some big nitro power through the stock BL diffs and have yet to destroy one.
It’s really a matter of your driving style, track surface/grip and how smooth/bumpy the track is. Have a variety of diff oil to test with on hand, you will rarely be satisfied with the 1st setup.
Also with the BL diffs be aware that the input pinion shaft is shorter than the 3.3 spec pinion by a few mm’s and when using dog bones or cvd’s for centers you may need to shim the bone with o-rings in the cups to keep it centered or often swap in the 4909 diff pinion to make up the difference in length to seat the bone deep enough in the cup(s).

Man that sucks I already had everything mocked up using the older style diffs. Guess it will be back to figuring the driveline again. Hope its only off a little so I can go the O-ring way. Can you use any of the diff pinions. Or does the 4909 diffs pinion only. I my have a set of 4909 diffs new I never used not sure. How can I tell if they are 4909 diff. I know they are the sealed ones and use the 4 screw setup on the cases.

The 4909 pinion is the longest of the standard pinions and will put the length back where it’s needed. It depends on how your bone is fitting now as to whether you will need to do the swap or not. If you have plenty of bone in the cups you will probably be ok with just o-rings, if it’s borderline you will want to do the swap.

Here's the difference, BL pinion on right, 4909 pinion on left. It’s only a few MM's but it can make you pull your hair out if not aware.

I think I was 1 of the 1st to use the BL diffs in a Tmaxx and it took me a bit to figure out why my 70mm UE bone was coming up short.

o rings will do the trick just be aware that if may bind if you put too many in and wear the pinion or cause trans damage
i was wondering why there are 2 different part numbers for the crownwheel and pinion sets thanks snook

I would say I will need the pinions. At least in the rear, because I already have it shimmed with a piece of fuel tubing and an o ring. The front may work out about right. My front dog bone was to short before maybe just right length now.

Okay snook does this look like a #4909 pinion. I measured it looks to be about 1in and an 1/8

Yep, looks like a 4909 pinion. You can tell the difference by looking at the pin hole, the BL pinion has a longer flat spot. The 4909 pinion will have the hole centered on the flat spot and the BL pinion the hole will be off center toward the end of the shaft.
