Hey guys, do I NEED a kit to eliminate reverse on my T-maxx? I know I can just put a screw in through the tranny above the shifter rod and take the servo and all that out but my main reason for doing it is to get rid of that horrid "clicking" at above idle. If I do need a kit can someone please reccomend a decent one that will do the job effectivly and not break the bank, thanks in advance.

There are a few diffrent Forward Only Coversions with the affectionate term knows as a FOC. I run them and everyone I bash with runs them. Maxxes are mad to drive over poop not drive up to it and then stop and back up.. A foc will improve your performace by removing the shity reversing clutch that causes a jump motion when starting excelereation it will also remove weight by getting rid of the reverse clutch mecanism and servo its a SUPER upgrade.. If you are running a .18 or below the stock trx foc will work just fine no need for RRP unless running .21... here is link http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCNA8&P=7 X

Thats the one I just put in my maxx. I have not been able to try it yet since I am still waiting on a part so I can put my CVDs back in. :depress:

OK so I went out tonight and bought the Traxxas FOC and installed it and it went in very smoothly and installed it per the instructions to the "T" and just test drove it and WOW, it accelerates a lot smoother and quicker but it still "chatters" every once and a while. I thought this kit eliminated that. Is it my 2 speed that is chattering? It only does it right above idle. In the conversion I replaced the reverse shaft, eliminated the idler gear, and the shift fork and plugged the holes. What the hell is the matter with it? Also, today I took it to the track and it would act kinda like it was in between foward and reverse (this was BEFORE the FOC) at high RPM. It would scream then the RPM's would spike quickly then catch. I checked out the 2 speed while I had it apart and the pins and "shear" looked fine. I am about at my wits end with truck! But then again the FOC helped out a lot and I will have to run it a while longer tomorrow to see if it still spikes.

Good review. I was staring at the FOC last time I was in my NSLHS. But I balked. Now my birtday is coming up and I have a feeling I'll be getting some gift certs for the place. I think I'm going to pick up the Traxxas FOC and give it a try. OK. So I like backing up. Because every now and again I have a brain fart and end up nosing into something. But it's worth trying something different...

Like I always say candy Reverse is for electrics...

As far as your issue lason pull off your clutch and take a look at it make sure you don't have a lip on it or anything. Sounds like you may be having an issue there also how tight are you running your spur and are you using slipper pegs or diff balls in it???X

I'm running slipper pegs in all holes and my slipper is LOCKED down. I took my clutch bell off last night in the middle of the FOC install to clean the shoes off and took any glazing off the shoes and bell. Can I replace the pegs with diff balls? That not a bad idea considering I hate those little pegs.

I run 1/8 diff balls. 6 are smoother than 12 pegs, they don't wear out near as fast as pegs, They dont melt those are my opinions.... My self and all my bashing buds only run diff balls. X

Almost forgot you can always find diff balls durring the summer unlike when traxxas does there normal mid-summer Oh slipper pegs are on back order for atleast a month bull poop...X

1/8 inch diff balls. Good food for thought. I may pick some up this weekend and put them in next time I take my slipper apart.

I run the diff balls also no worry about not having slipper pegs now and any hardware has them

WOW If she would only come with the diff balls!!!!

Is there really a major advantage of eliminating reverse?? Was looking into it for my next mod. Then maybe aluminium bulks. I just want to make sure that it is something that I should realy do.

Man I will never own a Gas Truck with Reverse. That is my opion its just extra weight it dosen't give you direct drive in the case of the T maxx and its just more crap to break.. I admit ocasionally I have to run down and move my truck if I pull up to something that I can't climb but its not offten. I spend a hell of alot more time flipping it off its lid than I do turning it around. I tell you when someone makes a mod that flips my maxx back over automatically I am SOLD.X

Ok X you made up for it, does she come with the diff balls? Damn I love brunettes! Thanks for the links.

they are only a fraction of the cost of the slipper pegs too. Do you use 6 or 12 for the best results?

thanks for the info, next time I make the journey to the hobby shop I will pick some up and try them out. Do you set the slipper the same as you would with the pegs, tighten it down then back out 1/4 turn, or is it different with the balls?
