Ebay steering servo???

if you are running 40 series you better be looking at something other than a 645. I would recommend the JR8711 if you have a decent hump pack. 200oz would be absolute minimum.
 
I think that's the same servo I got (mine was from seller "Cheapservoman" on ebay) but his are now $38.00 so not sure what changed..(Mine was 29.00 as well) I think mines the 208oz. torque, .13sec speed, coreless, digital, metal gear, bb's.. And it's great as a steering servo in a 1/8 nitro truggy.. Dont know that I'd trust it to serious racing, but for sport racing and bashing, it fits the bill perfectly!! If it's for crawling or something, I have zero experience in that..

I figured if the 125oz of the stock servo was that wimpy I would need more than the 133 or something that the hitec one has... and all I do is bash the hell out of the truck so that ebay servo sounds like its worth a go for 30 bucks. Cheapservoman is on there too, but I don't see any difference for 9 dollars...

I put some spacers in the servo saver to increase the preload on the spring too... see if that helps take some of the slop out. I'm waiting for a new diff right now so I haven't been able to test that yet...
 
Yea, I dont know why he upped his price? Used to be 29.00 as well.. Looks like I'll be addin the new guy to my "fav sellers" list! ;) Cause they do like like the same servo..
 
it looks like that servo even has the right connector for the truck... is the servo horn the right size too?

increasing the preload will kill that servo quickly. If the steering is sloppy, you need to check all of your other linkages.

all other linkages fine... the spring is just wimpy. If I turn the wheels at a standstill or when I'm driving the truck, I just twists the servo saver and doesn't turn the wheels... If I put a stronger servo, its just going to do the same... Ball caps are not at all tight, no binding...
 
You need to install the stronger spring. There's two that I know of. A wimpy one and one that works right. Shimming it may cause problems, but if your sure it's working right and will give in the event of a crash, it may be fine.
 
I know its working right and not binding. It does have give if I torque it up, but it gives enough resistance that I can actually steer the truck. It will move if I manage to run into something.
I did look into getting a stronger spring, but apparently they are not available anymore... Some of the trucks came with two springs I heard, but not anymore and definitely not mine.
If someone knows of a spring that would be suitable substitute, then I wouldn't mind picking one of those up too. Saves me from doing the mickey mouse repair...
 
I think my buddy's 4908 Maxx came with 2 springs. But he picked up the Integy steering kit, realized it's junk, then went with the Proline kit. So he may have used a spring that came with one of those kits. Not sure. But it sounds like your current setup will be just fine. I'll be refurbin' the steering on my old E Maxx pretty soon, so if I run across something interesting, I'll let you know.
 
thanks matt... if I have any issues with this I be sure to post them.... some other guys may find this useful too as the pro-line is no longer available...
 
( EDIT I didnt notice you were running bigger tires, so the 645 might not cut it either, but the 208 oz no name servo SUCKS for regular tmaxx stearing.


I got that servo to replace a 2055 in my 4909 tmaxx 3.3.

I HATE the servo. couple problems. 1 WEAK 2 doesn't move far enough.

I tried it with 2 diferent radios, and 2 diferent receivers, the servo definately doesn't move far enough.

I came across a USED hitech hs 645mg I LOVE IT. moves my wheels from lock to lock on the ground at a stand still. Its the same price as well.

sounds like I may have to spend a small fortune on a servo to turn these big meats... these tires are great in the snow (plus I cracked three of the four stock wheels) so I'm not going back...

what they say further down is that 402oz comes at 7.4v. they are the same at 6v. that kind of torque should be able to turn those wheels in quicksand. at least it better...
