The general consensous is to have another bashfest next year. It's rediculous to talk about it now, being a year away, but I wanted some feedback about the event while it's fresh on the minds of those that attended. Also, maybe we can give some idea's to the westcoast bashers.
I'd like to know what you liked about the beshfest and what you think needs improvement. Here's my list:
Needs Improvment:
Location:
Chris and his wife were fabulous hosts. I, however, think that a yearly invasion of their house is not something they are going to look forward to every year. If you noticed, they had to shuttle the kids off to a relative's house one night and not to mention the whole preperation factor. Their house was so clean it sparkled. Someone busted his or her ass to get ready for us. That would be a burdon every year! If we could pick a place that wasn't near a member's house or if we alternated who hosted it, it wouldn't be nearly as bad.
Activities for the Women:
Poor Lisa sat at the bashfest reading a book. My wife just sat there and Chris's wife knew better and STAYED HOME! I mean jeez. If our women don't have any fun, they are not going to want to come next year. The bashfest should be as fun for the girls as it is for the boys. We wouldn't hear any complaints if we had picked a location next to the Mall of America, for example. Your woman would throw you over her shoulder and drag your RC to the airport if we we had a bashfest anywhere close to that mall. I don't know if Bloomington, Minnesota will be the site for RCNT's 2004 Bashfest, but we need to plan activity for the women so they don't have to watch boys play with their toys.
Keep the Same
Location:
Ok, I've officially gone nuts. Buffalo is good and bad. That BMX track was down right sweet. I don't know if we could find another place that could duplicate that experience. Going to the falls was also a blast. Not many people know of all the fun stuff you can do on the other side of the border. There is even a Marine World type water thing over there. I don't know about having EVERY eastcoast bashfest in buffalo, but it's surely worth another visit.
The Planning
Going all willy nilly and not knowing what we were doing or when we were doing it worked out very well. We had thought about going to the parking lot at chris's work after the BMX track, for example. After we stepped foot out on the BMX track, however, you couldn't pull us away until it started to thunder and threaten to rain. I think we should keep the unplanned aspect of the bash the same.
My Conclusions
I think a more neutral location and activities for members of the female sex would make future bashfests more of a reality. From my personal perspective, I had an out right blast; I wouldn't change a thing. From Lisa and my wifes's perspective, however, they were bored. From Chris's perspective, he was glad to have us, but i don't think the prospect of playing host every year appeals much. The bash was a lot of fun and we've tapped on the makings of an anual event. Ee just have to make sure everyone has fun and no one is burdoned by it.
