I'm thinking about picking up the USB Car Data Recorder. Using various optional sensors, it picks up and stores the readings which can then be uploaded later and read like a graph. This is very helpful to determine amp draw/voltage/watts for tuning and tweaking an electric set-up. Two separate temp monitors which is great for brushless setups. Ability to monitor battery pack temp and esc/motor temp would let a user know that they are running in a safe condition. There is even an additional GPS module to determine speed and altitude.
At $150 for just the recorder it's not exactly cheap, but the data that it can potentially display to the user can act as insurance against motor/esc/battery damage and be a valuable tool for tuning.
