E Maxx Titians

I read on here about gaining rpm's by removing the thin metal wrap from the 550 titian's found in 14.4 E Maxx's. I did a search, but came up empty. Is this b.s., or is there power gains to be had? Does it cause any heat related issues? Any info would be great.
