I'm thinking of getting this conversion does any onehave any advise on this

Don't do it unless you are prepared to spend a few 100 bucks on driveline upgrades. The tranny gears in a maxx and the diffs as well will not hold up to a big block. The maxx was designed to be a 10th scale truck and will not hold up to big block power without upgrades.

The XTM is cheaply made, but will put a 21 in your maxx for bottom dollar. The dynamite one looks better and the cvd's are better than the ones that come in the XTM kit. I had to do some modding to my XTM kit to get the engine to fit right (OS 21 RG). But, the XTM chassis does flex quite a bit. The dynamite one looks stiffer. I say looks since I don't have that kit. Should have probably went with the dynamite one though.

Like Slod said, you will need to upgrade your trans significantly. Also, you will need to properly shim your diffs and probably go with a kippster or maximizer aluminum diff cup. The plastic cups wear out way to fast for my taste.

You can find the XTM kit at: http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/233301.asp
The red one is $20 cheaper than the blue one for some reason.

I have built two and still have one... the fit and finish are great, lightweigh, but the instructions could have written better with improved illistrations. I put a picco 26 in it and it ran great and handled quite well. It's a good bang for the buck.

I have the dynamite conversion kit and all I've replaced is 4 screws and a pinion gear that was 10 months old. It is worth every penny. Just get it with the mach .26, it is worth it. My truck is in my gallery, check it out.

My T-maxxx is awesome

I know two guys who have done the complete Dynamite conversion which included the .26 motor. They are both very happy. They are using stock trannies and diffs with no probs. One guy even supercharged his .26, LOL.

I thought I would be smart and get the Picco P2 .21 drop-in motor for my Maxx. So I got the P2 and now I am wishing I had gotten the Dynamite kit. The only thing I hate is pull start, so I won't get the Dynamite until they offer shaft start.

I will tell you, I have not raced the two guys with the .26 kits, but after seeing their trucks run, I believe they would blow my Picco P2 away.

LOTS OF people run the Dynamite conversion. On any given day I can go into an LHS around here and I'll c 1-4 Maxx's waiting for repair with the Dynamite conversion. The chassis and braces are good and the engine is nice. It's not an aggresively ported race engine but it produces good power from all accounts.

As others have pointed out. The thing that many new to this Hobby or specifically new to Maxx conversions don't realize is that if you wanna play you have to pay. The vast majority of the maxx drivline parts and the plastic tranny gears can barely handle the power that the stock engine produces. A big bore with allot of torque can cause allot of damage if your not setup properly.

As for the XTM conversion. Most of my buddies that have it wish then went with the Dynamite.

Probably the next time I have some cvd issues, I'll get the dynamite kit. Figure $39 for 2 cvd's and $29 for the center, just for those it's $109. That's almost the cost of the whole conversion. Plus you get new motor mounts, header, exhaust, chassis plate, undercarraige arms... I think that's all of it. I think my xtm chassis plate is a bit tweaked anyway. Just the front end is bent a bit.

WHaddup Olds,

Yeah....the Dynamite kit is allot of bang for the buck when you price everything out seperately. You can get the kit with engine, chassis, engine mounts, lower brassis and full CVD's for $285.00 or less. They're not giving it away for that price but it's a pretty fair price IMHO. I'm not sure how long that engine is going to last though and what the torque curve looks like on a dyno charts but lots of people I know running it are happy with it. SOme of them that have run the MIP Cvd's actually prefer the boot setup on the Dynamite CVD's.

Peace
