Hi all first post for me, I am fearful I amy have broken in this engine wrong.

The engine is a Dynamite .12 SPD Pull Start. I had some problems getting it started at first, but once I did get it started I let it Idle with the wheels off the ground for the first tank(Mistake mb). Then my son and I ran it on the ground for tanks 2-5 blipping the throttle between idle and half throttle for a whole tank. I fouled a plug and installed a new one. The head never got hotter than 200º I think, but I dont know cause I dont have a temp gauge so I spit tested and the spit just kinda of bubble away but not sizzled. I know I was running rich plus I used Blue thunder breakin fuel. I few times I think I might have had Hydro lock and didn't realize it. I also had some fuel bubbling out of the glue plug hole(air leak?). I also never got the White blue smoke really, I got some smoke. I did have some fuel spitting out the pipe. I got it started once on the sixth tank but she quit as soon as we got her on the ground and hit the throttle. After that it didnt start. I check the igniter and glow plug and the plug was heating up. I also noticed that the truck creeped less and less forward at idle with each tank. I did kill the engine when almost out of fuel and let it cool with the piston at BDC. I also noticed that my high speed needle felt spongy when I turned it, is that normal? The piston still is kinda of tight at TDC even after 5 tanks. When I couldnt get it started anymore I dumped the gas and put some after run oil in it. I am going to get some new plugs and try again this saturday or sunday.

Any opinions on this would be great.
Thanks,
PoPRC

Doesn't sound like you messed it up...maybe a bad plug or ignitor......make sure your ignitor is fully charged and the coil on th eplug lites up to the last coil...if it doesn't then it's probably done....

and get a temp gun if you aren't familiar w/ nitro...it's not the be all end all for tuning but t helps when you're learning alot

Good to hear, I posted this in three different places and I am getting the same responses. I would get a temp gun but I have already put $400.00 into it...anymore right now an the wife will blow a gasket!

get out now while you can LOL

i started in this about a year & a half ago with a traxxas nitro sport cause it was fairly cheap

now i have a $900 savage , $400 1/8 buggy , $350 brushless tc3 , $150 electric heli , & a ntc3 that I'm looking to spend a hundred or two on a engine for.

you may think ill just get this $300 rig & ill be set. but a video or something will catch your eye ....& you will be sleeping in the doghouse like the rest of us in no time, while your wife wishes it was just a $30 temp gauge your ordering :spit:

Well, i don't know if this will help, but I am pretty sure of the reason you had bubbling out of the header. When you changed the plug you probably neglected the small brss ring that goes between the plug and the header. If this plug is left out it will cause fuel leakage and poor performance.

The ring was there, I think I may have not tightened the plug enough. It Felt snug.

the brass can be bad from the factory....I've had some that small bubbles were coming out from....look for another plug's ring and swap it....those are more forgiving w/ leaks than a head gasket is.....

Maybe the idle is too low... Or its runnin a little too rich. Your on tank six, you should be able to lean it out about an 1/8th turn per tank from now on, untill it hits performance.

Can I start gettin on the throttle now and start running WOT or almost WOT? Or should I still take it easy, going only half throttle?

Until you get it at peak run, I would sugest tweaking the throttle very little, possibly driving in small figure aights. i would't go WOT until you are sure you have it running at it's best.
