so i just picked up a HPI RS4 RTR2 for a song and am interested in setting it up for drifting. other than using drifting tires, what else is absolutely a necessary to start drifting with a nitro car?

A lot of practice. I just used pvc or abs pipe and it fit tightly on the rims. Worked good, but hard as heck to drive. Fun though. Good luck.

Read my thread. You also have to adjust lots of things like camber and toe, differential stuff, etc.

I bought a evo3+ few weeks ago, and made a HD video of the car. There's some drifting action at the end of the clip. The car is standard, I only changed the wheels for drifting.

The clip can be downloaded in 1280x720 HD at vimeo (125Mb)
Enjoy,
Paul

Yes nitros can drift... It does take alot of practice. Here's someone that looks to be pro, tearing it up with a single speed.

man just get you some wheels and mount some drift tires, find a big parking lot, steady on the gas, and you will have a great time. It will drift!!

For Nitro drifting, you may not want to go with HPI T-drifts or any other kinds made of special plastic. The heat from the engine can dangerously distort your tires and mess up your drifting. I would think ABS could work fine though.

dont use pvc, its all slide, use abs or even better is heat resistant silicone pipe

You can also use Polyethylene piping. It's (I believe) the same used on T-Drifts, but since this will be thicker it won't have that problem of it expanding.
