My trusty Dremel I have had for almost 20 years gave it up today. Now I finally have an excuse to get a brand new one.

edit: Oops, I meant yesterday since its 2:00am.

When the wife isn't looking, I am going to bury it next to my 21 year old cat that died a couple of years back.

cat bones are cool... you can take the new dremel and drill some holes in the bones and wear them around your neck.... that would be so Voodoo sheik

are you joking? dremel dead?? the new ones are sick!! i never even knew dremels were alive for that long!!?

A buddy of mine just upgraded to the new cordless one they have out. Very nice. Just as much power as my old one that requires being plugged in.

Dremel has been around for over 20 years? I was thinking maybe 10.

I love my dremel. I need to get a plug in one, because my cordless runs out off batteries and it takes 4 hours to charge. Thats the only down side. Lol.. when the wife isnt looking... thats hilarious... wait.. was the cat 21 years old when it died? thats old for a cat!

Yes the cat was 21 years old. About the only problem she had was that she lost her hearing. Other than that she was healthy right up to the day she died. I think her body just decided one day that it was time.

Mcvickj, Dremel as a company has been around since 1932.

Dremel History lesson.

I am not a big fan of the cordless models.

Thats a nice set. You will find the pen adapter to be your best friend.
I wasn't a fan of the cordless units until I got one. Theres something to be said about being able to take it with you. I also like the fact that I'm not fighting a Cord. I can just grab it, go do some dirty work, then put it away. If I'm using it to do something around the house I dint have to pull out an extension, un wrap it, plug it in, do the job, Un plug it, wrap it up, and then put it away.

May want to go play with one before you make up your mind.

LOL and I'm still using a 1/4" set that my dad gave me 15 yrs ago and he had for eternity B4 That....if I need real grinding capability I use pneumatics w/ a regulator om it so it slows it down.......I really need to update my tools...in the shop i use the avg tool age is about 40 yrs old.....we just can't see throwing the stuff out if it still works....and most of it works better than the newer stuff....

I'm thinking about buying the new Dremel multi pro. Are those any good? I'm pretty clueless on when It comes to Dremel's. I'd like to start Getting tools, So I Wont be behind in tool quanity when I start my autoshop class next year at the tech school. I can go to it if i pass this test you take. It will be a good experience, Especially for what I want to do for my career one day.

the stuff I mentioned would be good for automotive.....you'll be able to do more burly work w/ it and less fine stuff....most of my tools are for automotive work....I have to laugh when I go to my dad's shop and start working on my RC stuff....we were making fun of ourselves last weekend and using floor jacks to raise them up and laying on the creeper to take off the tires and poop it was fun to just bug out for a while.....

I've been thinking lately about how It would be pretty fun to try to make some r/c parts, If you knew someone who owned a CNC Shop. But I was told that it is extremely harder than it looks. I Was thinking like a custom bumper, radio tray, or chassis braces.

I am getting stuff priced tommorow fro CnC work....all flat plate stuff so the Cadd work is easy....most of what youpay for on CnC is Cadd work......you can make a lot of stuff w/ that dremel set....you just have to be more patient...it is an art unto itself.....15 yrs ago I used to make stuff for my RCs w/ my 1/4" dremel.....just draw out how you want something to look on the plate and cut it...just remember you can always take more off but you can never add more to it.....once you get that in your minf the rest is just time.....

You Can also Draw somethings on material to with the Dremel. Like what they are kinda doing when Ridez starts up on TLC. Just not like that but you can do some good work on material with the pen attachment I believe.

I have that exact set and I haul it around in that box too. I take it to the track too cause you will almost always find someone with a generator that's willing to help in an emergency.

I haven't looked at the specs on the cordless models rescentlty. When I was in the market, however, they just didn't have the same power as the corded model. Who knows what advances they have made now though.
