I recently had a wicked accident occur that took place in my garage, and involved a can of nitro clean. I just came in from a day of RCing, and my truck was freakin filthy. So i did the only logical thing i could think of, CLEAN IT:classic: when i went to spray my nitro clean( keep in mind that the engine had cooled, and was away from flames or hot things) the freakin can EXPLOADED IN MY HAND!!!!! MY WHOLE TRUCK WAS A BLAZE AND SO WAS MY ARM!!!!!!. I RAN INSIDE MY HOUSE AND PUT MY HAND IN SINK, WHEN I CAME BACK OUT, MY TRUCK WAS ON THE WORK TABLE DECINTAGRATED!!!! AND I MEAN, TIRES MELTED, RIMS MELTED. FUEL TANK MELTED, BODY MELTED, SERVOS AND WIRES TAOSTED, ALL PLASTIC PARTS WASTED, METAL BENT AND DISTORTED, ALUMINUM DISCOLORED!!!!!!! OVER 1K WORTH OF DMG TO THIS TRUCK!!!! ALTHOUGH I WAS GLAD IT DIDNT HAPPEN TO MY SAVAGE AND HAPPENED TO MY FATHERS T-MAXX(NOT MY T-MAXX OR SAVAGE)!!! SO, RIGHT NOW YOUR ASKING WHAT IS THE MORAL OF THIS STORY, DO NOT, AND I MEAN DO NOT EVER BUY OR USE ANY BRAND OF NITRO CLEAN ARISOL SPRAY!! STICK TO THE SQUIRT BOTTLE IF U CAN, OR TAKE OUT A TOOTH BRUSH AND ALCOHOL, I COULD OF BEEN KILLED!!!!!!! LUCKILY I ONLY WALKED AWAY WITH MINOR 2ND DEGREE BURNS AND EVERY HAIR ON MY BODY SINGED DOWN TO 1 CENTIMETER!!!!!!! BE CARFUL FOR GOD SAKES......;)

Well...I don't know what to say...i've never had any problems with nitro cleaner. Just used some earlier today.

I'm glad you're alright. Take some pictures of the carnage. Also, try to contact the manufacturer and get them to replace anything that's wrong IF it was their fault because something wasn't right with the bottle.

Holy crap dude!!! Man, Condolences and all. I hope you heal up fast, burns suck. If the truck was cool and all you said, the only thing I can think of is maybe an electrical short. Maybe the radio was on and some of it got in to you Rx and caused the fire. Did the truck flame first or the can? Or both at the same time? That stuff has a really low vapor pressure and evaps pretty quick (and gets cold). Maybe it reacted with some fuel?:nuke:

well, i had my 110 oz steering servo replaced for free when i called up my lhs (cause they felt bad for me) i actually scrapped the truck due to the fact it was taosted, if my hand didnt catch fire, i would of put it out, but was in garage and was no source of water(was thinking of my body before the truck). lets call it, human instinct. my hand is wrapped up in a ball of gauze, its like a club.:naughty: , but i was rippin after this event took place!!!!!!

Yeah, there will always be another truck, but body parts are more important. Good call.

Damn Dude! You are lucky thats all that happened!

I'm really curious why it went down the way it did though. That should NOT happen at all! But dont think that the same couldnt happen with Denatured in a spray bottle or alcohol and even wd40. Most of the chemicals us nitro folk use are pretty dangerous. Especially if used liberally!

Goes back to rule #1 - SAFETY FIRST!

Goggles and gloves! Easy to use and cheap.

Glad to hear you are semi-ok! Get well soon!

Holy Crap Thanx for the warning junglboy_152000. Sorry to hear about your mishap. Luckily you were at least home and not out in the field bashing. As that could have been alot worse.
Get well and keep RC'ing.

Sorry to hear that man.Hope your war wounds heal up !Thats strange how it would just ignite like that.

Dude, that is WACK! You should call the manufactuers and make them replace ur T-maxx or somthing..Thats just screwed up man.

de-natured alchohol is the same thing as methanol - the ingredient in nitro cleaner. just put the DA in a high velocity spray bottle, and it works as good or better. also only 8.00 a gallon

I use a 50/50 mix of denatued alcohol and simple green. Gets my cars looking good. Spray it on, let it sit, and then blow off with an air compressor. Looks brand new.

i use just methanol as it dries immediatly and i dont have to worry about blowing it dry

Did you save the can?
Seems to me something was amiss. Cans don't just explode and catch on fire for no reason there must have been some kind of open flame. Were you smoking at the time? Before you caught fire? We know you were smoking while you were on fire.

I'm glad to see your ok now. I'm going to file this one next to the burning bush. Did your Maxx talk to you?

LMAO at eddy - dude - u need help. lol.

but i agree, something had to ignite it, u can't just catch fire without some source of ignition

Assuming there isn't something didn't think of and all was as you say with no real reason for the can and fire accident, I would suggest at least calling the company and telling them what happened and seeing what they were going to do about it. Who knows, maybe you can get a new truck and doctor bills paid so by them to avoid a lawsuit. Companies are paranoid about that stuff right now. What do you have to lose, but only if there was no actual reason or a cause to ignite the spray. It sounds like the spray caught fire and follwed it back to the can, exploding the contents of the can. Are you sure the electronics were OFF and that you didn't complete an electrical circuit with the spary (possible cause?)? It easy to forget something and think all is as it should be. Just a few of my thoughts. Hope you heal up quickly and with no lasting effects.

the DA in one of those pesticide spray conainers (ya know the ones that you can pump up and spray your plants with) is good to help build up pressure if you dont have an air compressor to blast it all off ...

i heard something about DA taking chrome and shine off of things tho, is this true ? will it hurt my rims ? they are just the plastic ones but they are still technically chrome i guess right ??
