I know this is a newbie question but what is the fasted way to get the front dog bone out. Its the one that runs from the trans to the front diff. I tried moving the trany around but I can't get enough slack to get the cup off which I need to replace too.

Do I just need to take the front diff out. Wanted to make sure there wasn't something I was missing.

what savage do you have,,,,,,,,,,,,, y are you replacing it ,,,,,,,, and yes ,the front end is a long process,,,,,,,,,,,,,have fun:p:

I broke one of the ears off of one end of it. It still works but I know it going to fail very soon.

I have a savage X. I probably should have gotten heavy duty Dog bones for it while it is apart but I tend to have to learn things the hard way.

well i will assume by your question you havent pulled your truck apart yet so the best way to go is by the front end. After you have done it once you find the easy way to pull the diffs which is always a good thing to know depending on how hard you drive it.But i always reccomend to people new to the hobby or folks that get a new truck/car for themselves to always pull it apart in steps to get familiar with what your gonna have to do for repairs.2 screws at the front upper part of the chassis and and like 2 screws on each side on the lower part of the chassis and just pull aprt the 2 pieces and the front end will drop out.To get the diff out is quite a few more steps but yoou didnt ask that.Good luck

It looks like in the manual I neet to remove 6 screws from the front. Bend the plastic skid down and pull the front off of the diff cover. Then I need to pull the diff out. At this point will it let me pull the pinion gear through the front of the case, allowing me to remove the cup and dog bone. Or do I need to pull the whole front of the truck off.

It's eight screws - four on each side.
The whole front end should basically just pull straight out and the dogbone will drop out in the process.
The cup is part of the diff assembly and you won't need to toy with it unless it's worn and needs replacing.

Don't forget to pull (unscrew and pull) the arm off the throttle server.

The two screws you missed in the manual are the two back screws on the receiver/servo tray - back by the transmission/rollover bar.
