Oh great and poweerful RCNT I seek your infinite wisdom once again. My T Maxx seems to be posessed! when I ru8n it close to me, like 10 to 15 feet away it runs fine, but when I get about 50 to 60 feet away and further, it starts doing crazy things. The steering turns by itself and sometimes the throttle goes wide open! I changed batteries in the receiver, and the batteries in the transmitter are good. I am using a stock T Maxx transmitter. A guy I bash with told me my receiver is going bad. Is this possible, the truck is only about a month old and not too many runs on it. I await your wisdom Thanks alot

Your receiver or transmitter crystals could be bad also. See if your LHS will test a different set for you. Did you get the receiver wet ever??

Darth: receiver has never been wet, i have another set of crystals i will try tomorrow, thanks for the info, been thinking of going to fm anyway, i hate the Traxxas transmitter anyway

yes i belive that it is the crystals. i have had the same thing happen to my truck, come to find out that my reciever crystal wasn't quite in all the way!:hehe:

I had also experienced problems with a set of crystals in my tq3. Once I changed them it worked fine. Something else you may want to check, check to see that all the plugs are firmly seated in the receiver, I had one once that had worked loose and it acted wierd as well. Also check to make sure the antenna wire was not pulled out of the receiver or damaged in a crash or roll. There is always the possibility that the receiver is going bad, but always try the easy things to check first.

Possesed MAXX

I have never been a fan of the Traxxas supplied electronics on their kits, that's everying from the TX/RX to the Servos.

One of the first things I did was bang a cheap 3 CH 40MHz FM (UK Freq) RX into it and use my KoPropo MARS-R.

Back to the issue at hand, also look around your stomping grounds, one of the Members on one of the Forums I admin had wierd stuff happening with his AM TX/RX.
He discovered that there was a power cable under the section of road he runs on. He ran the car in another area and it behaved.
So, look for cellular network/radio towers, power lines and the like, they all affect AM transmissions.

I also suggest investing in a "FailSafe" unit. No Nitro vehicle should be without one.
Venom Racing make a decent one, I use a cheap, cheerful and effective GWS unit.
I configured mine to apply the brake if signal is lost.

Now, if you solve this problem and don't pay us for the advice we gave you, your T-MAXX will be reposessed :) :)

lol thanks for the info, it just started doing this yesterday, i am going to check the crystals today, but am leaning toward an fm radio, and the fail safe is a definite, hate to see it run wide open into a tree (ouch)

Mondo: if I went to an fm receiver, do I have to change servo's too or can I use the ones that are in the truck right now just plug them in to the new receiver???

ok i know u didnt ask me but i can anwser this the anwser is no u do not need new servos. unless traxxes has some weird things if so u can mod them so the fit. just make sure u get a popular one cuz if u get a off brand one it may not use the same ones i hope this anwsers your question

If you go FM, you can use the same servos.
If you get an Airtronics or JR radio, you will have to grind off the little notch on the servo lead connectors to get them to plug into the receiver.

this is going to sound stupid but my friend got done running his and it sort of did the smae thing. what we think it is...is the batterys they might be weak, so try fresh new batterys. it just might work

Dougc-He tried the batteries. I think it's the crystals. By any chance, did u cut the antanae?

Hey thanks for all the advice, I found out what was wrong, I took the cover off the receiver and found out the antenna wire had become separated from the receiver:doh: anyway one of my friends had a spare receiver, replaced it and it works fine. But thanks for all the suggestions, I will keep them in mind if it does it again Steve
