OK, I am getting sick and tired of the noise. I'm sure the neighbors don't like it either. Does anyone know of some good tuned big-block pipes that are actually somewhat quiet?

that wont make it much quieter at all those are just for directing exhuast gases away from the RC so you dont get everything all oily. Chevy theres a thread around here somewhere on how to make a silencer out of a soda can try a search and see if it shows up

I just replaced the stock pipe on my lightning with an Ofna Jammin Pipe, and it is a little quieter.

If you use the exhaust deflector on any pipe, try and angle it down towards the ground. With changing the direction of the sound from coming at you from the side to pointing downward and bouncing upwards, it wont be as piercing on the flybys.

As for the quietest pipe to start with???? No idea.

Typically dual chamber pipes are MUCH MUCH quieter than single chamber pipes.

The dual chamber that I have on my Kyosho FW-04 is pretty quiet when compared to the regular pipes. Personally, I like hearing the engine scream past me. Nothing sounds better than a finely tuned engine.

BTW, that pipe is what came with the kit so I take it that it's made by kyosho.

i broke my pipe bashing the other day it got really loud like a harley sounded cool till the car died :(

Some of you guys miss my major point, which I did not convey correctly in the initial post. It's the neighbors I am most concerned with. That's why I don't like the noise, because I KNOW it's bothering them. And you know what? If we piss off enough neighbors with all this noise, then soon there will be new noise laws passed which encompass things like this.

For instance, my town recently passed legislation which banned loud car stereos. You know, the ones with 1,000 watts of power and multiple sub-woofers that rattle the house when they drive by. They based the ordinance on decibel levels, which the police are aggressively enforcing. Personally, I am glad for this ordinance, because I hated those idiots rattling my windows at all hours of the day or night. But you can be sure the guys with the mega-bass stereos loved their noise, just like we may like our nitro noise. However, the public did not love that noise at all, so it got banned, just like nitro noise might.

It's time to be responsible and keep a lid on the disturbance that we cause to our neighbors, before they pass a new law and the cops put a lid on us. Just my $.02.

Oh, and for the people who think they can't ban nitro noise, here's a comment from a guy on a different forum:

I have news for you.. The County where my parents live in Florida all nitro toys are banned. The people in townhouse complex didn't like the sound of nitro boats in the lake/pond next door. Thats all it took. Now no nitro's are allowed.

Thanks for tips and links to two-chamber pipes.

He said it right.

Damn man! They banned nitro toys all together with? That's a bit rediculous, but at the same time... in certain areas, I can understand how people wouldn't like it. Too bad that some people have to do things like that as opposed to just talking to the person directly... and vise versa... too bad people don't take a bit more into consideration for their neighbors. My 1/10 I would run outside in front of the house a few times a week, few tanks at a time with no problem... my 1/8 is WAY too loud... it is about as loud as the 1/10 was with open exhaust.

Skrew the old stokies,I dont see how they can ban a rc toy?Maybe if it was real close to a military base and the frequency interfered with opperations of some secret level. But because they are to loud, and someone dosnt like it?Hell, I dont like Ford cars and trucks, ban them! While your at it ban this new country music poop,it has to be against the law!Point is,if we ban something just because somebody else dont like it.What the hell are we gonna be left with? These things are no louder than a lawn mower, leaf blower, weed eater or chainsaw are those gonna be banned as well? Lets hear the neighbors bitch when their grass is 6' tall!

For you guys that think noise is necessary or should be tolerated in almost all instances, check out the news in New York City. This could be your town or city next.

From MSNBC: Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Monday (June 7) proposed to rewrite the city’s noise regulations to deal with the leading complaint about the city’s quality of life. “Noise disturbs our sleep, prevents people from enjoying their time off from work and too often leads to altercations,” he said.

Bloomberg’s proposed changes cover noise makers from pile drivers to air conditioners — as well as anything else deemed by police to be too “plainly audible.” The changes would also prohibit any sound that increases the ambient noise inside a residence by 10 decibels during the day and 7 decibels at night and would cover everything from barking dogs to car alarms to ice cream trucks.

I think you can safely say that screaming nitro engines would be prohibited under this type of legislation.
