hi, i just installed my reverse in my gear box and put my savage back togeather. then i saw another post in the savage forum with a gear box and reverse installed. i noticed that he had a bearing on the cog that was sat on the reverse mod and also one on the other side of the case. marked in yellow. my question is do i need the one that is sat on the reverse cog as i dont think i installed it. its the bearing inside the little round thing you take out to install the reverse mod i think. hope you understand this i any help would be great. https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/gallery/data/511/4703tranny-med.JPG

thanks g unit

I dont fully understand, BUT, by the looks of the pic I am going to say YES! My concern would be the gear drifting down the spindle, or even having play that will ultimately cause stripping.

I could be wrong, but from the looks of it, yes, its needed.

not sure about either answers.
the highly detailed instructions that come with teh reverse module are easy to follow with steps for each part to go be installed in number sequence. For those who have the reverse module instructions, in section #8, it shows only the need for one bearing and that is the bearing that is circled in your photo to the left.
Now....I could be the one taht is wrong....but, no problems here.
I have my reverse module installed from diagram and it works great with no slop in gears, nothing rattling around inside, and no clunks when shifting to reverse unless you shift while moving which is just from stupidity if ya like your gears chewed up.
here is the HPI online view for reverse install http://www.hpiracing.com/instructions/instruct-savrev.htm

NJRC, you are right the instructions for the reverse do show you there is only one bearing. BUT if you note the part # is B085 for that bearing, which is the bearing that comes out of the part that you have to remove for the reverse module it fit in. (part# 85044) Now, for the other bearing that they don't show in the reverse instructions. If you look in your instruction manual on page 29 (for the truck itself) it shows the other bearing which is part# B023. Now with all of that said you can run the truck with only one bearing because I did it and it worked fine but if you want to do it right you need TWO bearings in there Trust me! I had to do it twice.

Good luck

i used one!!!!!

thanks for the replys guys. i just used one, as thats what the diagrams looked like. no probs yet.

Well, I just popped open my tranny again and threw in that larger bearing that was not in the diagram instructions. It just doesn't make sense to have two bearings up against each other. But I threw the larger one back in and seemed to fit fine all together.
