It's not unusual for me to adjust my steering rate and speed at a track. It can be from track temp and tire wear. Were you racing on carpet? I just picked up a set of LP carpet tires, haven't tried carpet racing yet. But the sidewall is a lot stiffer than my smoothies, would make sense that would slide a bit more. And feel different from a slick, maybe DavidB1126 will chime in.

By chance were you running slim tires and wheels before?

I haven't used my carpet tires yet, I mainly run on a clay track indoors. Hoping to try out carpet racing soon. But I have heard of people running slicks on carpet at certain tracks. I would just try them out, having top much steering isn't always a good thing.
