I'm getting ready to buy a video camera so that I can record my crawling practice sessions to gath data on my setups, and do the same on the home track so I can replay the races and see how different changes effect handling, lap times, etc...

I would prefer one that uses mini DV tapes or mini DV disc, but I would be interested in hard drive cameras as well if the price is right. I thought I would come here before I went to Ebay. I tried to buy one last night as Wal-Mart but they were sold out, because of Mother's Day I'm sure.

Check out the selections at Office Depot and Circuit City. They both have an excellent selection of video cameras that have tape, mini disk and HDs. You don't have to buy them there, but you get a chance to see how they feel in your hand, check out the features, and get some info.

I did some shopping yesterday, and I found that I liked the Samsung and Sony cameras the best, and I'm sure I'll end up buying one of them new, but I thought I'd check here first. Always like to find a good deal while helping out members on the site at the same time. In fact, I tried to buy the Samsung but they were all sold out.

I have a Samsung cam that I bought from a forum member a little while ago. $280 and it's yours. The only problem is that it's red instead of silver or black.

I had one a while back very similar, but it had A LOT of problems so I sold it to some succor for a boat load of money

Panasonic PV-GS320 Mini DV Camcorder Is the one that I have and love it. Very clear and a bunch of different options.

My little Nikon camera takes really good videos. It's not a video cam but if you put a 1 gig card in it it'll record almost 30 minutes on the highest setting.

I saw your post in the other thread and I appreciate the help. I've got plenty of memory, I've got a 4 GB and an 8 GB SD card, but I've already got a still shot that will take video, but now I'm looking for something specifically made to shoot video. I may get something that shoots in HD as well.

I'm off to warn the others.

Ralph, now don't you go and make me pull out the groupies.

I wouldn't do that to you. Others maybe, but not you haha

I'm off to warn the others.

Check out ANYTHING by Olympus. Their features and new technology totally amaze me for the price.
Mine will shoot OVER 600 stills with the flash and the LCD screen on, on one set of alkaline batteries. Most cameras won't even do 50 without low batteries turning off the LCD.

Ralph, now don't you go and make me pull out the groupies.
LMAO....Okay, I'll behave.

I'll definitely consider that, I'm going to check them out tonight. I'm about to dig into my new Revo and when I finish that, back to work researching the cameras.

 I knew you were looking for a video camera but I thought I'd throw it in the mix. Nikons are REALLY good cameras.

On the other hand, my mom has a pretty cool little Sony Handycam (I think that's the name) that records directly to mini DVD's (30 minutes of recording time each). You can then play them directly in the DVD player with no mods or put them on the computer and edit them. It's really small but very practical. I don't know if it's what you were looking for but it's certainly a good option for the video novice.

Yeap, the mini DV is what I was looking into, and Sony Handycam is one that I looked at yesterday. The mini DV disc is convenient, and I may get it, but the mini dv tape records in raw data, and is much better for complex editing. I'm not into video editing very seriously right now, don't even have time to fool with CS3 much with my RC hobby, but it's a feature I may want later.
