What is the difference between the 21, 25, and the ss? I was checking on ebay and they got all of them. Whats the best one?

SS
HD dogbones (wheels only)
pullstart (better IMO)
clear body
tuned pipe
old tank
adjustable upper arms
you build it

25
roto start
3 shoe clutch
all electronics
new tank
pre built

Both the SS and the 25 fixed most of the weak points from the 21. I would suggest avoiding the 21 and focusing on the SS or 25.

The .21 is the first run Savage (kind of like the old style T-Maxx). It is a great truck, but from the word go consumers (we RC modelers) had numerous issues that could use improvement. Most of the improvements came built in to newer models (SS, .25 RTR, and .26 RTR for our European and other non-US modelers). I have a .21 with several hop ups that corrected the initial complaints. So far, I enjoy the truck very much.

The SS kit came out and fixed some of those issues. If you want to build something, SS is a good way to go. You can upgrade the parts you want to without having to break it down. Just upgrade as you build.

The .25 or .26 RTR models include all the hop ups and some other improvements. Both are great trucks. The .25 RTR is a US model. The .26 RTR is a non-US model.

Any of these trucks would be a great buy. The .25 comes with a decent engine and some decent electronics. If you want to put in your own engine and electronics, then get the SS kit. The .21 comes with a moderate engine, but is getting easily outgunned by the bigger engines.

Skymax is spot on as usual. SS and .25 are a better build than the .21, stronger and more powerful but in saying that i own a stock .21 apart from upgraded air filter and reciever but i have yet to find a .25 that i can not out perform, not saying i have the fastest truck in the world or anything like that but i race 3 or 4 times a week, usually against T-Maxx and .25 and my little .21 is faster off the mark than any truck i have raced yet. Maybe the other cars are not tuned or whatever. My mate just bought .25 yesterday, even his can not keep up with mine. Anyway the choice is yours, (SS=Build yourself(Good idea)), (.25=SS Fully built and RTR), (.21=.25 With smaller engine). Happy shopping

I think that the SS also comes with the .25 motor, correct?

I wonder why they did not use the 3-shoe clutch on the SS. I assume the 3-shoe clutch is stronger than the 2-shoe.

Is the pipe that comes with the SS actually a "tuned" pipe, or is it just a fancier looking pipe? Is the stock SS pipe really any better than the stock pipe that comes with the 25 RTR? I am guessing that the SS pipe can be used on the 25 RTR. Is the SS pipe better than the various aftermarket "tuned" pipes?

I am reading that the S25 RTR is a fairly loud Nitro vehicle? Do the aftermarket tuned pipes quiet it down at all and do they actually add any noticeable power?

The SS comes with the .25 and a alum. ribbed tuned pipe. Since it was released befor the Savage 25, it still had the 2 shoe clutch the 21 came with. They upgraded to the 3 shoe clutch when they released the 25. The pipe that comes with the SS is better than the pipe that comes with the 25.

Yes the SS does indeed include the .25 engine. The pipe for the ss is an aluminum rippled tuned pipe, very similar to the paris ripple tuned pipes for .15 mills. The 25 rtr comes with the same composite pipe as the .21, I don't like composite pipes personally. As far as the three shoe clutch, I have no idea why the did not include one with the SS kit, I have since purchased one and am getting ready to install it. The fuel tank on the SS is still the old style with the primer, I personally do not like tanks with primers so I have replaced that on my SS as well. I just saved the original in my box as an emergency back up tank. I enjoyed building it, much more than I would have just buying the rtr. Not to mention by assembling it yourself you familiarize yourself with the vehicle, and when a problem arrises you know how it went together so it makes working on it much easier. I also like the clear body, I don't want the exact same paint job thousands of other guys already have. So I guess I am biased towards the SS, yes, get the SS, LOL.

I am pricing both trucks and if you do not already own a 3-channel radio then the SS is going to cost significantly more than an RTR 25. The 25 RTR is only about $50 more than an SS and a 3-channel radio with some servos is going to cost a lot more than that.
