differential ticking

RC Driving Style
I have noticed that when the truck is in motion that the front differential ticks drastically enough to make the tires move without me doing any thing. also, sometimes when i hit the throttle the engine revs and i see the driveshaft is turning, but the truck isn't moving.
 
do you have any suggestions on what diff to get? Are there some that will last longer than others?
 
Dont feel bad. I'm in the same boat as you. My rear was bad when i bought the truck and to get it going i had to replace it with a spool. Now the front is blown. I know traxxas has a heavy duty diff gear set, which is what I'm going to look into, but it seems to me that the problem lies in the amount of slop from the factory. Has anyone tried to shim the output gears/shafts to take some of this out? Or am I just looking too deep into this....

Also, is there a big enough difference in the durability to justify the integy or RRP diff kits?

You need to take apart the front end.

There are 8 screws to remove in order to remove your front diff. First of all, pick which side of truck you'll remove. Let's say for instance "driver's side". You need to remove two screws attaching the "driver's side" bulkhead to the main chassis, two screws underneath attaching the bulkhead to the skid plate, two screws attaching the bulkhead to the shock tower and two screws attaching the respective side's bumper support to the bulkhead/support. Once you do all of that, that side of the bulkhead can be moved out of the way, now you can remove the diff case.
 
I just got a new diff and was wondering what was the best weight of oil to use. Are they for different purposes?
 
Yes, there are differences in what the weights do. I'm not a racer so for me any weight oil works. I've heard a lot of racers say they use 30k up front and 50k in the rear diff. Since I do a lot of jumping and bashing I put 80k all the way around.
