do you have to use silicone oil, or can you use petroleum oil in your diffs

Always use 100% silicone oil, silicone oil is not affected by changes in temperature and will remain at a constant viscosity.

what silicon oil do you suggest for savage xl??
i drive it with default engine and gearing!!
grease is sucks!!its does nothing in my diff!!

ah man chemical metal is class, iv use it to lock up diffs in old rwd cars for drifting, sealed leaks in engine blocks in tractors and to fix holes in sumps. comes in 2 tubes al u do is mix them together and plaster it on anything u want.
best is j b weld,

Like yamaha said, you will be just fine with using Ofna's 120k silicone diff lock. I use the same stuff in my X and it is pretty thick but will pull the truck through just about anything!
