Hi, i opened up my transmision box to fit in the centre diff for the rear break system and found that it was all quite dry in there with some white dust from the diffs, is this normal or should it be lubed up? which oil would be recommended and how much is needed?

thanx

the gears in the tranny are designed to run dry. so no need for lubrication. i forgot the material they are made from. but no lube is needed. also every so often you may want to crack open the tranny to make sure the rear diff is not leaking.

bobbyc1127, the gears are made from delrin (i think that's what it's called), which should be self lubricating so i'm told.

That said, I run a little, and i do mean little, amount of tamiya gear grease just to be on the safe side. I learnt not to leave the gears dry to help keep them in good shape for longer. That goes against all recommendations, but it has caused me no problems thus far.
