I Just got my savage 4.6 today and iam doing my diffs I was going to put 3000wt oil front and rear but I don't have any.I do have 3000 and 1000 WTF should I do ??? :shrug: 5000 front and rear?? or 5000 front and 1000 rear

I would just run 5000 front and rear. I ran 5000 front and 3000 in my old savage and I liked it.

You have to post some pics! Its torture wiating this long without a savage lol.
 
I am doing my diffs again as I noticed a leak due to am old seal. I am using 5000 Front and Rear. It'll be my first time so I don't know how it will perform.
 
cool guys Ill try the 5000 f and r AC ill post some pick after I get the first diff toghter :cheers:
 
do they come oiled? if not i geuss i better take it apart and do it before i run it.
 
they don't come with oil they come with factory greese IMO it sucks...

HPI should have let the user build the diffs
 
That does suck. Think HPI should have picked up that and supplied some generic Silicone oil. Fortunately I have a couple different flavors in wieght from Kyosho and Ofna. Let us know Bro what you think so far! Lucky are you!!
 
so where do i get this oil, how much? is it a must do? how hard is it to do?
 
Well so far Iam not inpressed with having to tear down the diffs to clean and add oil.. and to get the front side berrings in to the axel carriers I had to take a reamer to them to get the berrings in .. Ill post more tomarrow nite.

My computer is not working well so I can't down load pics for some reason...
 
getting those bearings in were hell of a time. wait until you install the 3 clutch shoes and have to get the spring that holds them in place on the opposite side.

how do you like the bag of upgrade goodies?

The clutch i is not a problem LOL thats the first thing I put togher..

:) I have done a few ..

I did like the duel disk.. and that air filter is fucken huge..

I wish I could call in sick tomarrow so I could finish this..
 
i hear ya. the dual disk is unridiculous. i just played with it and it wont move with the slightest pressure on the brake. the air filter inside element is pre lubed.

so where do i get this silicone oil for the diffs, and what advantage does it have over the stock stuff?
 
Arawak, The diff silicone can be picked up at your LHS or about any online RC supplier. My suggestion to you is don't fool with it until you have a need to get into your diffs or are doing a major teardown/rebuild. Almost all RTR's and ARR's come with grease in the diffs and this provides adequate lubrication to the gears. Typically the folks messing with different weight silicones in their diffs are racers looking to adjust the posi-trac (for lack of a better word) action of their RC's. I guess the hardcore basher trying to get the "perfect line" would also take the time to do this mod.

I would agree. If this is your first kit and it is already all put together I wouldn't mess with it. Your diffs are properly lubed and you won't have a problem with them. People use silicone oils in their diffs because it can slightly limit the action of the diff so one wheel can't spin completely free from the other. You have to becareful with your wts. though, if you put too high of a wt. in the rear and a lighter one in the front your truck is going to want the rear end going first.
 
okay then i'll just leave it be. I'm just a backyard basher and not really the comp type. although i like watching comps to the fullest. thanks guys. how do i know when i need to tear it down and use silicon? what are the signs?
 
Hey so From what I'm reading I'm hearing that the diffs are put together but you have to install the 4 spider mode your self? Thats kinda weird why wouldnt they just not put the diff together and let us, o well. Correct me if I'm reading wrong.
 
it is assembled with the 4 spiders, but has grease in them. i got 3000wt. I'm gonna try that and see how it works out. i live in the desert and there is plenty of tracks around and one that people race at that the locals made is behind a movie theatre.

i have a truck load of sand in my backyard that is about 7 feet high to fill the horse pins up,but I'm about to make some jumps and a track in my backyard with it. mom is going to be pissed when she sees what I'm doing with her sand hill.
 
I think it would be better if HPI left the diffs completely unassembled. People who buy kits are more likely to want to set it up to their liking than poeple who buy RTRs. It would make sense to me to leave it unassembled but oh well...lol

Also they put greese in them so that you have to clean them out before you can put oil in them.
