Can using the wrong weight diff oil destroy the diff because I'm using 70K wieght and I have gone through 2 diff cases (the gear around the outside of the diff?) And I'm wondering what I am doing wrong basically

what car?

and no the diff oil wont affect it... are you putting it back together right? are you doing lots of jumps/backflips?

Its a MERV. Yes lots of jumps, baclflips, crashes etc. If not the oil then I think it is probably my that I am not putting it back together properly or I'm not using the right shims. What is the correct procedure for servicing a diff?

It's a known fact that the backflips eventually destroy the small diffs in the MERV. I've never done one, and never will. Have probably 75 packs through my MERV with zero diff issues at all. Also, 70k is pretty extreme, I have 5k front and 3k rear in mine.

Yes, guess the landing when doing anything like that will put a lot of stain on it. Ok wow! Maybe I will have to invest in a little lighter oil :D. Would a centre diff help or just make life worse?

I've read that it helps, but it will decrease wheelies too, which I like. :D The center diff will help split the power between front and rear, and then you can tune how you like the split with different weight oil as well. I just pay attention to when I gas it, and to be honest I haven't had any driveline issues at all. I also tore down and serviced my diffs before I even drove the MERV, mine didn't need any shims BTW.

I just checked the diff oil container and its 7k not 70k as I previously said ;).
Ok I just ordered my centre diff :D. What set up would you recommend oil weight wise? I have a shim on one side of my diff, could this be causing a problem?

I have 120k in the rear of mine to help with sliding... On around my 10th pack I tried a couple back flips on 3s and that smashed my rear diff. Just carry some spares and limit the throttle on landings etc

Shimming the diff so it'd not too loose and not too tight helps. Treat it like the spur gear mesh... And center diffs I heard take out the fun and or with big power makes more problems

Thank you. Any idea where I can find the correct size shims for it?
