i have my front differential torn apart right now and I'm still stumped on what weight to fill it with.

I have 7k, 5k, 3k to work with.

Any ideas?

I did a search but for some reason there isnt much info on this topic for the savage.

What weights are you running?

are you just bashing? 7 up front IMO will be to much bite.you need to pick up some more diff oil.

I know this is a bit off topic but I figured it was a good time to ask. when you say push is that comparable to a 1:1 car understeering when at it's limit?

You got it right. I don't no how to explain it the right way. but that is right.
It's the same when your talking about 1/8.....

I think it's a matter of opinion and just trial and error as to what suits you.
I did my diffs and put 300K in the front and 100K in the back. You read right.
I wasn't sure about the weights either. Was going with 30K and 10K to start with, looked too thin.

Sounds too heavy, but I'm glad I did it now. I just bash. Do a lot of hill-climbing. It's a real turn-on for me to be easing it up a hill and all 4 tires are spinning. Here is a link to how one guy has his Mammoth set up. He is using 300K in front and back. http://globalservices.globalhobby.com/globalforum/viewtopic.php?p=39292#39292 I know it's not a Savage. Just found the link, read a lot of his posts and he makes sense on what I've read.

Point being:
Go ahead and do the 4 spider mod. (you are doing that?)
Put what ya have in the diffs. If ya don't like it, change it. There are quite a few winter days coming up where ya are going to be working on it.
Get it together and see how ya like the setup.

Whatever you do, don't fill them up too much! I did my X-term, I made that mistake. Got one that is leaking. Leave enough room for the oil to expand or they will leak. Good luck.

Yes, I'm doing the 4 mod now. Your right about the winter months coming and there will be plenty of time for working on the savage. So, i think i will try 5k in front and rear. I've read here, by Error401 that he would put the same oil in both to. I can't find the thread but i will look some more and post it here. I wanted to do 5 and 3, but why not try what i have? I have the front filled with 5K now. I would do the REAR now to but i dont have any black grease for the ring and pinion. My dumb ass ordered yellow grease....can't use that right...does it have to be black?? So, I'm on hold and will run to the LHS and get that black stuff in the morning. Id love to see that XTM run!!!!!!

Went and found it
