Blew out the rear diff in my Savage this weekend.
Don't have the parts to fix it right, so I'm going to patch it. Tore apart now and I don't want to lose a bunch of parts before my order comes in... (parts and mud all over the kitchen table and I have a ol' lady)

Housing is messed up where the pins sit. Are these housings better than stock? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHCA4 I just about had the engine broke in when I did the spider mod and saw some wear then.

I would say yesbut I would clean it out with Denatured Alcohol prior to using it. There may be some oily residu on the case.
I would also do the 4 bevel spider mod while you are there and add a specific Silicon diff oil there. IMO

Just ordered the stock housings. None of my cars are running... Want to get a couple of planes fixed too. Getting by as cheap as I can. Ordered enough to fix 3 cars. Hope my 'ol lady doesn't trash em. :eyes:
Thanks for the reply jon2. Doesn't look like anyone uses the aluminum housings. I did do the 4 spider mod. Maybe too late. 8 or 10 tanks? Bought this diff oil http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFTY1&P=7 , used the 300K in both diffs. Thinking 100 and 60 this time?
Thanks for the input.

I destroyed my rear diff on only the tenth tank too. When I had done mine those cups were not available, and I was not spending $50 per cup for maximizers cups, so I just went with stock cups. With the four spider mod they seem to be holding up much better, but I have not pulled them apart to visually check them again.
