Diff Grease question

I'm rebuilding the diff on a Losi XXX NT, that I recently bought used, and in the instructions I downloaded, it mentions "Clear differential grease."
Anything special about this, or can I use white lithium grease or automotive grease instead?

The reason for using clear diff grease is to help you determine when your diffs start eating themselves. If you use clear diff grease it will start to discolor as your gears start eating themselves.

You can use whatever you think best, but I would try and work more with stuff designed for RCs. Some 1:1 greases tend to eat plastic at times, but that does not apply to all. Please don't ask me to specify which ones work and which don't. Why? See my recommendation on using stuff designed for RCs.

Really, I do not know which 1:1 greases work well.

I used the stuff made by niftec. Came in a syringe. Worked well, but it was $14 for the tube. I rebuild my diff about 4 times before I went with an RRP diff gear, then I never did it again in 4 gallons... I still have about half the tube left.

Excellent info on the clear, SkyMaxx. Olds97, I'll get a tube of what you recommended. I don't mind spending high dollar for something that is quality, especially if it goes a long way.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. Niftec makes some really good bearings and stuff for the losi diff as well. You might want to check them out.

I've already gotten all the carbide balls and the gears, and I'm ready for assembly.
Any idea if that grease might be available through Hobbytown USA? My LHS doesn't carry it, but there's a Hobbytown 20 miles from here.

Same here. I have an old syringe from one of those ink refill kits that I fill with lithium grease then squeeze out the right amount where ever I need it.

I made some calls. The clear grease by Niftec is not readily available from either of the LHSs. I have wheel bearing grease for 1:1 cars, and lithium spray grease. I've used the lithium for other things by spraying it in a container and letting it boil off, then it leaves a good coating when I smear it on.
Any preference between these two?
I just had to rebuild the rear diff on the Tmaxx today, and used the bearing grease on the diff gears inside the cup, and the lithium on the pinion and spur.
Different setup in the Losi, though.
