Okay, I'm really feeling stupid now. I don't know what I did, but I can't move my desktop icons to where I want them. They just spring back.
I've checked, and just can't figure out how to unlock them again.
How simple is it, and how stupid have I become?

Uncheck "Lock Web Items on Desktop" & "Align to Grid"??

I dont know.... lol Ask NCNitro, I hear he's a computer genious...

I have an XP here, but this is still my primary one.
When I right click, I have the option to Arrange icons by Name, Type, Size, Date, or auto arrange. Everything is unchecked.
I always move icons when I add something, and now I can't move a thing.

I just ran Roxio GoBack to 'start of day', and now I can at least find what I'm looking for. They still won't move, though.
Anyone else have info?

Is it that you can't even pick them up and drag them? or is it that when you drag them they just go back to where they were? And are you able to double click on them to run the programs?

This has never happened before.
This comp is running '98SE. I can open programs. I'm unable to move the icons to where I want them.
They will drag, but the instant I release, they pop back to where they were.
Actually, the entire icon doesn't drag, but only a transparent copy of it. The original icon stays in place, then the transparent one snaps back.

By the way, they are not in straight lines up and down, they are actually still where I placed them the last time I changed wallpaper.

Hmm...I'm coming up blank on my web search. It does sound like an "auto arrange" thing, but you have already unchecked all that. I can't find anything else right now. I'm gonna sleep on it and see if I can come up with anything. Until then, hopefully someone who works with these damn machines can think of something..

Damn, I remember the same thing happening to me a while back and now for the life of me I can't remember what the hell it was. I know it was something stupid. Once I stop beating my head against the wall and remember I'll post it. Good luck in the meantime.

After messing with this for hours, I took a break to eat. Noticed another problem. I don't use a screen saver, but after 15 minutes, the monitor turns off. It didn't turn off, even after an hour. All the settings were correct.
I ran a full virus scan, and came up with 3. Norton was unable to repair, but quarantined them.
I still couldn't correct anything, so I ran Roxio GoBack and rolled back 5 days after saving my files on discs.
Problem solved. Everything is back to normal.
