OK just a quick quwstion, I always see people talking about useing denatured alchohol for cleaning purposes, is this just for cleaning the body of the said car/truck or for total cleaning of the body and chassis and everything in between?? :constipat

its supposed to be okay for everything but i have never used it. i guess it does a really good job of breaking down the nitro fuel and gunk build-up. just keep it out of any electronics

Road Rage this would also be a cheeper alternative than any sort of R/C Nitro cleaner in a spray can that you can pick up from your LHS.

Cool, I just bought 2 quarts of it and a spray bottle, but I didn't want to just start spraying like a mad man any booger anything up! What I'm wondering is though is do I just spray and wipe or spray and leave or does it need to be rinsed off?

Denatured alcohol is great for cleaning because it will break down the oil residue left from burning nitro. It's generally safe on everything except electronics and chrome plated things. At least as far as I know. Usually you just spray it on, agitate it with a toothbrush or paintbrush and then use some compressed air to blow it all away. It has no water in it so it won't promote rust in bearings or other metal components..

woah that's neat mon yo!!! Grime bad!! people make rustler a happy rc!! bl@st off!!!:jester:

Thanks Candyman, only thing I lack now is an air compresor lol, but that will change soon as well, I plan to buy an air brush (from the LHS) and a small compressor probably from Menards or somewhere similar. You mentioned it's not really good from chrome plated parts, will it discolor the chrome or possibly strip it?

it makes the chrome have a whitish haze look on it. Denautred is great I use it all the time, and I just spray and let dry. Later yoru truck is nice and cleen and has a minty fresh scent!!!

works very well, and drys/evaps fast.. try and get a stiff toothbrush

Used it today to take mud off and didn't work that well. Good on the grease though.

I think that's why the toothbrush has been suggested twice in this thread, for me if it needs a good cleaning I take out the motor and use Pine-Sol orange clean and a toothbrush and rinse with warm water being careful around the electrics (though I have them water proofed) then I give it a spray down with the denatured alcohol and finally towel dry it and set it over the heat vent for an air dry...........like we used to say in the auto detail biz " A clean car is a happy car" LMAO:rolleyes:

I use the D/A with one of these I bought at home depot
all you need is an air compressor also, it works like a Min presure washer. It was only like $12

It works great

hi,
i go over my truck with sugar soap mixed with water in a spray bottle then after soaking it with that i use some metholayted sprits on it this gets all the grease and creap of and the sugar soap gets of the mud this has never gone worng for me

I just use Berrymans carb cleaner, $1.90 a can, and try to keep it out of the diff and trans bearings, and blow it off with air.

I've tried the refillable spraycan with denatured and it just doesn't have the "pressure" of a can of Nitro Clean. Denatured works great on grit and grime but does nothing for MUD. If you use the toothbrush method it cleans great.

After trying a bunch of other products, so far the best has been NitroClean and any type of automotive brake or carb cleaner. The combination of the pressure and the chemicals break up anything and everything grimey on my rides. BUT there are some BIG disadvantages.....because of how strong these chemicals are they will strip the lube from a bearing in an instant. While you dont have to worry about the liquids being condusive to electricity they will start to eat at the curcuit boards.

SO, if you do plan on using NitroClean, carb cleaner, or brake cleaner you MUST re-oil your bearings and remove all electronics EVERYTIME YOU CLEAN.
