Attention All Laptop Users,

You may have heard that Dell has recalled over 4 million of its laptop batteries. Dell has determined that certain batteries produced with Sony battery cells have a potential issue that could cause the batteries to overheat, posing a risk of FIRE. These batteries, produced by Sony and distributed to several computer manufacturers, will be replaced in the near future. We need your help to determine if your laptop battery is one that should be replaced.

Please follow the instructions below to locate your laptop's battery serial number.

As a result of this potential issue, Dell is voluntarily recalling and offering free replacements for the potentially affected batteries that shipped between April 1, 2004 and July 18, 2006. If you would please refer to the following web site or phone number where you can get all the information needed about this recall.

https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com or call Dell @ 1-866-342-0011 (M-F, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST)

thanks for the update woodie. i just the general announcement on the web. already told the wife to look at her laptop...

My sister bought one of those XPS systems earlier in the year. I told her to have a look at the site.

thanks for the info. Luckily, my wife's machine's battery is not affected. Still, the idea of a 11.1 volt large Li-ion battery sitting just a couple milimeters from a sensitive part does scare me a bit.

Compliments of the Iquirer;
