Tamiya High Lift F-350. New in box. Still shrink wrapped.

The thing i can't figure out is, should I A: Leave that bad boy shrink wrapped in storage, and wait until it becomes a rare classic, like some of the other tamiya rigs and get some serious bank out of it, or just go ahead and do the build and let it sit on the shelf built...... I am having a real tough time with this because I dont really have the time to get out and run my rigs like i want to, and i really dont wana just "waste" it and let it become like rolex's paperweights.......

I don't see any of the newer kits ever bringing in the kind of money a nib bruiser, or hilux will bring. And even IF it did you would have to wait 20+ years. I just dont see the point in having a kit like that and not building it, I don't see any enjoyment in that at all. Even if you don't run it I would still build it.

BTW you did spell dilemma wrong :D

hmm, good pickle for sure. i agree that it prolly wont be worth as much as a bruiser because there are SO many around but keeping it in its original unopened package would be super cool! i think.....and again, no offense and I'm sure you are aware of this, everyone has a highlift scaler, BUT not everyone has an unopened one! i think i would (or atleast try) to keep it unopened and when you get the time/chance/money build a different scaler....it would be super cool to have some unopened rigs like that and who knows, they could become very hard to come by and people might end up paying big bucks for them in a few years, might be worth the wait to see.

I completely disagree. Theres just waaaaay too many of them around for them to ever command the prices that bruisers do, nor are they on the scale realism the bruisers were. The axles are plastic, the chassis looks nothing at all like a real truck. I think plenty have already been stashed away by people thinking they will strike gold one day. IMO these are just like hot wheels, an original 1968 redline will bring in hundreds, and the 1995 treasure hunts will, because they were the first hunts, everything after those bring in a very small fraction of what the "originals" do. I think these new high lift kits are in that exact same category.

is that tamiya something that your into? it was a good trade, but maybe their is something else you would rather have then that. its alot easer to sell soemthing thats new in the sealed box for excactly what its worth then if it was built or turned into a paper weight.

It's still a current kit that can be found for 370-400 bucks. It will be 20-30 years before it could possibly bring in big dollars, IF it ever does.

I was just curious. I'm considering building. Just have to wait n see. It is a expensive kit, and with the body on and all, i think it is a pretty realistic looking rig.

i would personelly build it. its not something i would pick out, but its a truly cool model and soo realistic. just lookin at the box makes me want to build it. they really are cool looking.. and dont you have a super duty ford?(black) you have to do a replica.. i think that was you?

Yup, you spelled it wrong.
I don't have a paper weight, but I rent it out during severe storms to hold roofs down.
The oldies, like cars or baseball cards became valuable because they were tossed as worthless. Nowadays everyone thinks everything will be worth something, but it's unlikely.
$20 years from now, instead of being a classic, like an early first generation Grasshopper, it will just be an old truck with outdated technology.

This is #2, the first one i have is pretty ragged, and had a lot of ghetto modified things to make it work. lol. + it has a set of 2.2 wheels/tires on it. I got it in really bad condition from someone. Took a LOT of work to just get it running and looking half decent. It looks much better in person than in these pix.

As much as it mite be cool to keep it all sealed up, I just could not do it, I would build it and use it to do scale runs, I wouldn't bash it. JMO....

if its a scaler that you think is cool then ya go ahead and build it but if you would rather build something else id just keep it sealed up or sell it now and use the money towards a different one, just because there are so many already. like my jk, after i had it about done is when they really blew up and everyone started buying them, so it was time to sell it and do something different.

I have to go with NC and Rolex on this. Besides, what is the point of having something that may or may not be worth anything in a closet for years. This is a hobby, we buy these thing for recreation, to enjoy. Let it sit in a closet if you want, its your rig, maybe (I doubt it) it will be worth more down the road or you could build it and have fun along the way. If its not something you are into, it'll make a great trade for something that is.

I am a collector of vintage Tamiya and Kyosho rigs and completely agree with NCNitro and Timex.

Supply and demand is what dictates after market value.

The vintage stuff is expensive because the NIB supply is limited due to the fact that back then nobody was saving the rigs in their unbuilt state. Most of the stuff that has been sold on ebay is old store or warehouse stock.

As Joe stated, a lot of guys think this will be worth big bucks down the road and have stashed the rig. Because of this fact, there will be a lot of supply which will keep the price down.

Get the light kit and built that sucka up.

I dont think that there is any point in keeping something in it box. It was intended to be played with so thats what i would do. Even if you dont want to use it, you could make something really good out of it, do a build like slowngreens. Then put it on a shelf, I'm pretty sure that a day will come when you've got enough spare time on your hands to use it, but not enough to have to build it.

Alpine, I would take your other one, put a more scale tire and rim set up on it, and actually add damage to it. Paint it to look like it has been a well used trail truck, add some rust, dents, and maybe a primer quarter panel or fender. And bash that one. Build the new one, and use it gingerly, I think you would get more enjoyment looking at it in it's built form than sitting collecting dust in a box in a closet. And you are right, with the body on they do look very scale, and the F-350 is my favorite of the high lift series.
