Be careful jumping of the alternator or starter directly. The manual should tell you where the jumper posts are located. Going directly to the starter ar alt could create other problems as a lot of the higher end cars don't take well to being jumped in the first place. Going direct will bypass any protect provided by the ECU.

There should be a Valet Override Switch either in the Glove Compartment or the Middle Console on XJ6.
Green key= Valet Key...
so the trunk keyhole will not work.
Do not attempt to locate these cables... you'll upset that boardcomputer pretty wildly...

Thanks for the help guys, I was using the valet key. I brought the right one in and wouldn't you know it, the damn thing popped open. I have the battery charging now and will install it tomorrow, I hope it holds a charge. It is a 72 month battery that is only 3yrs old.

just remember to either disconnect it or start it every so often as the batteries tend to drain on cars like that when they just sit.

Ducktape the Check Engine Light, or learn to ignore it :o)
Run it once a week for at least 30 minutes, best is to move it too, Jags hate tobe parked!!!

Yeah, I intend to move it every so often but have been lazy about it. I have to contact my friend to make sure he takes care of the registration or gives me the money to take care of it for him.

even if you disconnect the battery it is not goood for the battery to sit for too long. I always use a battery minder charger on my batteries that sit for any length of time. it keeps the battery fresh and good.

Not talking about the same thing. Most of these cars, Jags, Bimmers, Porsche's don't like to sit for more than a say a week. If I go on extended trips for work I have to have someone start my car midway through cause it either won't start or is hard starting after that amount of time even with everything turned off. There's a constant drain on the battery. If the people I work for leave one of thier cars in the hangar, we have to do the same thing. 30 days or so, yeah put a bat tender on it.

Put the battery on the charger last night and it held a charge. Installed it this afternoon, after work, and it started right up. you would have never known it sat for months without moving. I have it parked at my house now, my neighbor wanted to know if she could hire me to drive her around in it. lol

No I mean with the battery disconnected from the car totaly to keeeep from that drain on the battery.

still not what we are referring to. Yes a battery will drain over time, but not like it will if it sitting in the car connected and not being ran. That is why most of them have a disconnect switch. If the car is going to sit for say two weeks to 30 days, use the disconnect switch or disconnect the pos post. Longer than 30 use a battery tender. Less than two weeks, start it up every few days.
