OK,I'm just slightly pissed off.I went through 1 new pair of the stock 2 shoe clutches yesterday bashing with a buddy,OK we went to the HS an hour and a half away and I got the 3 shoe clutch and flywheel from the newer 25rtr.I installed it today and didnt even get the first tank drank down and the three shoe is slipping like crazy? It was actually stinking from the burnt clutches?WTF is causing this poop,I sanded the CB and the shoes lightly on both installs? His factory 2 shoe is slipping on his so he ordered some aluminum clutches for it but hasnt got them yet,are the aluminum shoes the way to go?It just dosnt seem right, how could I be F#*kin up putting the clutch and clutchbell on? The truck ran about a gallon on the first shoes and once the mill started really performing good(after a gallon) bye bye clutches? I feel retarded or something, this shouldnt be happining.Damn I'm pissed :hammer:

the first thing i whould check is your clutch bell.is it out of round???(ie)not true. if it is good. then check your crank is your bearings good?? are the pins bent on your fly wheel?? these are just a few things to check..that will make clutches blow..but IMO it is usually the clutch bell that is destorted..

OK, I'm gonna change the CB out and get her another set of shoes tomorrow. I hope it fixes it, because I know the flywheels OK, its new, and the bearings are all OK too. If this dosnt help, are the aluminum shoes as good as the guy at HTUSA let on like they are? I heard they wasn't all that good thats the only reason I didnt go ahead and order me some. I really love my savage but this has me feeling like a dumbass, OK I am, but this should be a no brainer install?

my self i haven't ran the alum shoes.but i have herd that they lock up to fast.
so i have stayed away from them. i run the unlimited 4 shoe in my buggy and love it.

Will it work on the savage? I'm new to the 8th scale clutchs? I run HPI racing clutches in my maxxs and touring cars, the circle with the spring that goes all the way around the clutch,is there something like that avaliable for 8th scale applications?

i just got my set of nova 3 shoe aluminum clutches with adjustable weights(set screws) ill let you know when i put them in. i hope they work good!!

yes the 4 shoe will work.. for your savage..for that matter any bb clutch set up will work. no matter the brand..

OK,now I have her tore down and it looks alittle weird? The back of the shoes(closest to the flywheel after the groove for the spring) dosnt look like it is contacting as much as the front of the shoe(closest to the end of the crank) did anyone understand that? They are real shiney(melted) in a bigger spot in front than back? What in the world would cause this?

ok the first thing these are new shoes right?? if so i whould take some fine sand paper 240 grit and sand very lightley on the front of the shoe to match the back...little at a time..and install a new clutch bell..do this in till they are even and contacting the bell all the way around..this is needed so the shoes are in contact all the way around the cb..if you don't you will keep blowing out the shoes..be patient don't rush it and you will get it..

i would change your bell, maybe warped also the ends closets the flywheel should be more worn because they swing out right? maybe your springs are worn!

OK, yes all new shoes, springs and flywheel I'm gonna sand em again and give her a whirl tomorrow with the differant CB. Thanks for all the help!

thats what i told him to do.but if his new shoes are worn on one side he needs to sand them down and install his new clutch bell

These are the ones that I run and I think they are awesome. They grab hard and are durable.

oh this is good to hear they were only 19.00 on ebay and i plan to put them on this week sometime thanks...

Joneser, if you have gone through 2 sets of clutches already on the 2-shoe & 1 set on the 3-shoe, there must be something wrong with it. Make sure the shoes are installed properly, right direction and the springs are snug fit. The CB should turn/spin freely when you turn it. If any of the springs do not sit properly on the shoe, you could have a problem. I have my original 2-shoe clutch on my 21BB, I have not changed it since I got it. No problems even when I abuse it.
:)

Ya, I know this already.Visually there is nothing wrong with my install,CB spins freely, shoes and springs are all installed properly?I dont get it,I sanded the shoes and installed a differant CB(sanded the shiznit outa it too) but its raining like haites here so I havnt had a chance to test it out yet?

Get a sliding clutch and make sure that your cb is properly shimmed when you install it. Don't use the hpi brass washer and get the ofna clutch shim kit instead.

I'm using the HPI brass shim with a washer,it doesn't have any slop?Whats wrong with it?
