I was wondering if you guys could give me a little info on how to properly cut a crankshaft. I dont want to screw it all up and buy a new crank. That thing is so damn long I think it would rub on the transmission. Also my dual exhaust seems to be off center because the... well I have no clue!!! Has any one ever had this happen to them? I just need help.:whack:

First off, is this engine being placed on a stock T-Maxx? Or did you get yourself a .21 conversion kit?

If you got the .21 conversion, you shouldn't have to cut the shaft.

Ya Its a .21 conversion made by Racers Edge. I have the flywheel spacers in there so the clutch bell would not slide back and forth but it does because the shaft is just too long. Any Ideas

What .21 engine is this? I have never heard of nor seen a .21 engine that needed it's shaft cut to fit a .21 conversion. Is the engine a car engine or an aircraft engine? Gimme a little more detail, and I'll try and answer the questions.

i had to cut the shaft down on my engine to make it fit in my .21 conversion. i bought the engine off of ebay and it was made to go in the X-Factor so i think that the shaft lenghts are different. but anywayz i made it work now. just dont cut the shaft down too far, if u have to cut the shaft take and put ur clutch assembly on and then start cutting a little by little but make sure that u dont do it too much tho, or u might mess it up.

OK Skymaxx, its an engine out of an HPI savgae .21bb. Its a truck engine as you probabily know. I was not planning on having to cut it down but I guess the difference between a 1/8 scale engine and a 1/10 scale truck is more than I thought. What kind of tool do you think would work best for cutting it, I probabily have almost every single tool available so if its somthing weird I probabily got it.

Dremels are the poop, they can do most things and if it can't cut it, a saws all can. But they are sort of limited.

No need to get testy. I was curious as to the engine type because most .21 engines do not require cutting. El Pirata dropped a .21BB (from a Savage) right into his .21 Conversion. As far as I know he didn't cut it.

If you absolutely need to cut the shaft, the best tool for the job is the dremel tool already mentioned. To prevent any of the filings, shavings, or cuttings from entering the carb, place the engine in side of a baggy. Poke the shaft through the baggy, then cut it. Make sure you have marked the length you need properly so you do not take too much. Otherwise you will have to buy a new shaft (not cheap).

The only reason I asked the questions I did, was to try and save you some time and money (in the case that cutting didn't go well). If the engine wasn't the issue and something with the conversion or the engine mounting was the problem, then cutting the shaft wouldn't have been the best solution. That is all. Good luck with the new engine.

Good to hear, now get out there and break something....err, I mean break in the engine...and then break something.
