Custom Painter needed maybe

I wanted to know if there is some kind of paint mask for a buggy lid to assist me so that I can do an urban camo paint scheme if there isn't I need to know if somebody could do one for me.

Thanks for the plug Zandor, but I've never tried to do a camo lid... Maybe shoot Candyman a PM.. I know NCNitro could do camo, but he might be a bit preoccupied with all the hurricanes rollin through.

Camo tends to be basic. If you look at a lot of camo, it's primarily patches that are faded on the edge. If you're looking for a crisp camo effect, just cut random shapes out of masking material. There's really no standard pattern so you can just wing it. Take a look at some pics of clothing or other vehicles with the camo you want and match the colors up. Then just go at it.

Thanks, I think I am gonna attempt it so would I just mask the whole body and then remove mask where I would put black and after that remove where the grey would go and then just cover the rest in white. Does this sound about right?

If you plan on doing it with an airbrush, use your finest tip, and work close to the surface. You'll get a nice job, with soft edges, just like the real thing. Practice on a piece of glass, to work out the effect you want. You can scrape it off and try again. Do one color first, then another, and finally fill in with the third.

Wich camo are you going to do? desert, winter, jungle? I'll paint my Hummer body with winter camo next week

I agree with Rolex, there is no need to mask if you have an airbrush.

What I plan on doing is basically what you have there except more white and only one shade of grey. I think it would be easier for me to go with a mask as I dont trust myself with the airbrush yet. I did buy a paasche airbrush set but I have had problems on a couple of previous lids that did not turn out to great, my last few I have gone back to rattle cans and masks for now that is about what I am capable of.

If you are going to do the camo with rattle cans, you'll have to mask. That's the easiest way. First, I'd prep the body and ream your body post holes. Then the window masks. And then mask the whole inside of the body. DON'T take of the overspray film. Because then I'd draw the camo designs on the outside of the body. Decide what colors you want which areas. When you paint, you want to paint darkest color to lightest color. So cut the areas and paint them in order and it should look good.
